Articles Addon Gazette Ordering Articles By Modified Date Not Published Date

I am using the gazette template with SPPageBulder 5.x and the Articles addon. The "Latest" ordering option is choosing the modified date not the published date.
This is an issue as any changes to the articles is bringing up content from years ago as latest.
