Copy Article With Helix Blog Images - Question | JoomShaper

Copy Article With Helix Blog Images

Helix Framework 1 year ago

We have a client who uses the articles with helix blog images. If he saves an article as copy and then deletes the images in the copy then the images are gone in the original article too. Is there a way to prevent this or a possibility to save the article as copy without the images so that he can choose other images for the copy without the need to delete the others first?

It would also help, if there was a possibility to duplicate an article without the images.

Kind regards. Tanja

Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out, and I apologize for any inconvenience caused by this oversight. To better address the issue, could you kindly provide Joomla administrator access? This will enable me to thoroughly investigate the matter and provide you with a prompt resolution.

I appreciate your cooperation and will ensure to get back to you as soon as possible.

Best regards,

Hi Toufiqur,

please find the access information in the hidden content.

I don't think that this is a website specific problem, but the functionality of the helix blog images. If you delete the images in the copy they are deleted from the server (which I think is a good function).

But because of that they are gone for the original article too. We migrated this page from Joomla 3 and wanted to get rid of core overrides. In Joomla 3 we had overridden the helix blog options (JS, PHP, etc.) to integrate a second button which unlinked the image from the article without deleting it from the server.

But we do not want to use this overrides anymore because it might cause problems with every update.

If you need any further information, please contact me again.

The copying was not the problem. The problem is that when you delete the images from the copy because the copy needs other images then the images are deleted from the server and therefore shown as broken image in the frontend in the original article. The images have to stay on the server when they are linked to another article.

I just deleted the images from the demo (5) article. Now they are deleted from the server. And in the backend you can't see them in the blog options any more.

It would also help us, when the images where not copied with the article. Then there would be no risk to delete images in another article.

Hi Toufiq,

can you tell me which override causes the problem? I cannot find anything that changes the blog options functionality.

Kind regards, Tanja

But the frontend layout doesn't have anything to do with the fact that the images are deleted from the server when I delete them in the copy and therefore cannot be shown in the original article anymore.

That is the problem for which I am searching for a solution. Not the broken image shown. The images MUST stay in the original article when I delete them in the copy or if I create a copy, the blog options should not be copied with the article so that the client can use other images for the copy without the need to delete something before.

Can you share a screencast video about the full scenario?

I do not know how to make a screencast of the scenario. Steps to reproduce the issue:

  • Create an article and upload images to the helix gallery.
  • Copy this article. (the images are now also bind to the copy)
  • Delete the gallery images in the copy.
  • Now the images are also gone in the original article.

I need a way to either copy the article without the binding of the images OR the images MUST not be deleted from the server when pressing delete in a copy, if they are also bind to another article.
