Cropped Image Loses Important Content Using Default Helix Image Crop Tool

Helix Framework 5 months ago

Hi everyone,

I'm currently building a website using the shaper_helixultimate template on Joomla. I'm using the default image crop tool provided by the Helix Ultimate framework to resize images.

However, I’ve encountered a frustrating issue: when I crop an image using the default tool, it automatically crops the center without considering the actual content or focal point of the image. As a result, important parts of the image are being cut off, and the final image no longer conveys the intended message or context.

Here is an example:

Original Image:
hunacloud.vn/images/2025/05/11/hunacloud-windows-app.jpg

Cropped Image (by Helix):
hunacloud.vn/images/2025/05/11/hunacloud-windows-app_medium.jpg

As you can see, the cropped version removes key information from the original. It would be great if the cropping tool allowed for repositioning the crop area or selecting a focal point manually.

Is there a way to: Customize the crop area or position? Use an alternative cropping method that retains the important content? Here is my configuration: https://prnt.sc/gZLiN-WASYAF

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Dear Toufiqur Rahman,

Thank you for your response and the screenshots you shared. I appreciate your time and support.

However, I must respectfully express that I am not fully satisfied with the current outcome. My main concern lies in how the image is being cropped and how it affects the visibility of important content in the image.

I have configured the crop ratios in this settings panel to reduce the image size when displaying thumbnails and medium-sized images: https://prnt.sc/gZLiN-WASYAF

The goal was to optimize image loading and performance, not to lose essential parts of the visual content. Unfortunately, with the current behavior, the cropping removes critical elements from the image. If I increase the dimensions back to the original size to prevent this issue, it defeats the purpose of having cropped versions like Thumbnail or Medium in the first place.

Would it be possible to implement an option that allows:

  • Choosing the focal point of the image during cropping?
  • Or disabling hard cropping and instead using proportional scaling while maintaining the aspect ratio?

This would make the image handling much more flexible and content-friendly.

Thank you again for your continued support. I look forward to your guidance on this matter.

Best regards, Thanh

We don't have plan to add extra feature on croping area. If you provide me administrator access then i can check your issue.

Don't forget to upload your image after changing the settings of Helix. It means you need to re-upload your images once you change the settings of Helix blog image.

-Thanks
