Errors When Using SP LMS After Upgrading To Joomla 5.4.1

Hello, Joomshaper team!

Please help me solve this problem. I'm using SP Builder Pro, SP LMS, and the Educon template. I updated Joomla to version 5.4.1, SP Builder Pro to 6.12, SP LMS to 4.1.3, and the Educon template to 4.0.2. Now I'm experiencing errors when using SP LMS and also an error when editing a user.

I'm sending you a video of the error and screenshots of the site configuration. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ijl3mwDuhEDjCVFTx_puW8h4RRLiSrbR/view?usp=sharing

Thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out and for sharing the video and screenshots. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I have tested the same configuration on our end (Joomla 5.4.1, SP Page Builder Pro 6.12, SP LMS 4.1.3, and Educon 4.0.2), but unfortunately, I was not able to reproduce the issue you are experiencing. Since you are unable to provide site access at the moment, would it be possible for you to share a backup of your site instead? Having the full environment will allow us to investigate the problem in a controlled setup on our local machines.

We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to your response.

Best regards

I have tested LMS myself - and must admit I find it both flawed and limiting. So I deleted it again.

If I may suggest using PageBuilders Dynamic Content instead - it gives you many more options, and the learning curve is not that steep.

Hi, John. Thanks for the advice!

Yes! Your idea is quite viable, but I worked for a long time on Joomla 3 and created a lot of content on the SP LMS, which was fine for me at the time. Now I can't imagine converting it all to PageBuilders Dynamic Content.

Thank you for your quick response to my problem.

I don't understand why I can't even edit users? Upgrading Joomla from version 3.x to 5.x went smoothly. There were some issues with isAdmin(), though. I'm providing a link to an archived copy of the site and database. Since the site was created in 2019, it has a certain size.

Thank you, and I hope everything works out for you.

Thank you for the additional details and for sharing the archived copy of the site and database.

Regarding the issue you mentioned about not being able to edit users after upgrading from Joomla 3.x to 5.x: the upgrade process itself may complete without errors, but changes in access control checks and deprecated functions such as isAdmin() can still affect backend operations, including user management. We will need to examine how those permissions and checks were migrated, and whether any extensions or overrides are enforcing outdated logic.

Before proceeding further, I need clarification on one point: the archive you provided is approximately 12.5 GB in total size. This is unusually large for a Joomla deployment, even for long-running sites, so I would like to understand what is contributing to that volume. Large backups can indicate unused media files, logs, cached assets, backup folders inside the root, or other stored artifacts that may not be strictly part of the application. Could you confirm whether the archive includes additional data beyond the webroot and database?

Once I understand that, I will be able to advise more accurately on how best to proceed with analysis and remediation.

Thank you, and looking forward to your update.

Hello, Atick! The entire volume is mostly filled with media content, which could, in theory, be deleted. I downloaded the backup directly from the hosting service to avoid any errors.

Thanks.

Hello Nikolayts,

Sorry for the inconvenience you're experiencing with SP LMS after the Joomla update.

To address this, please replace the file located at:

JRoot/components/com_splms/models/course.php

with the updated file provided in the hidden content area. After replacing the file, the issue should be resolved. If this doesn't solve the issue, please reach out and I'll look into it more deeply.

Best regards

Hi, Atik!

Your file helped solve the problem. Thank you. Sorry for not responding sooner, I was busy with work.

I also solved the user access issue. I had to disable the regacymaling plugin that was generating the error.

Thanks!
