Update-Upgrade Issue With Backwards Compability Plugin

Hi there, I bought the Kidzy template. Installed without any new extensions, so it's still fresh. It runs yet on 5.4.2. PHP is 8.3.29. But also the same issue with 8.2 and 8.1. But is it all suitable with PHP 8.4 yet? SP Page Builder is 6.2.2. Kidzy template 3.0.2. (notification = up-to-date). Helix 3.0.5. But as soon as I disable the backwards compatibility plugin, the frontend crashes. The red screen displays the message: "Sorry, there was a problem we could not recover from." The server returned a "500 - Whoops, looks like something went wrong." That's bad because it means it can't be upgraded to Joomla 6. Never. Updating from 5.4.1 to 5.4.2 also caused problems with the language file. But I was be able to fix that. I think there's still old code in various files (and the template) from the old Joomla 4 that hasn't been updated correctly and properly. Last update October 2024! Please help how to fix this!?

Regards, Erik

Hello Erik,

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed report, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you’ve experienced.

We understand your concern regarding the dependency on the Backward Compatibility plugin and how this impacts future upgrades. At this time, we can confirm that we are able to provide a fix to ensure proper functionality on Joomla 5, including resolving the issue that occurs when disabling the Backward Compatibility plugin.

However, we would like to clarify an important point regarding future compatibility. Kidzy is built on the Helix 3 framework, and at present, we do not have plans to update Helix 3–based templates for Joomla 6. As a result, Kidzy is most likely not going to receive a Joomla 6–specific update.

We understand that this may be disappointing, especially when planning for long-term upgrades. Your feedback is valuable and highlights important considerations for future framework and template development.

If you would like, we are happy to assist you with the Joomla 5 fix . Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Kind regards

Hello Atick, Thanks for you honest answer. In my opnion -a template like this one with a high amount of buyers/users- earns it to make it for a long time use and so suitable with Joomla 6 (and even higher). Especialy when it is made with sp page builder. And in y opnion it is good to should mention it in the specifications so that people can take it into consideration before buying.

It would also be good to rebuild (such) a template for Joomla 5-6. Not having to constantly update and adapt from 3 to 4 and beyond, because sooner or later you'll run into problems. To be honest, I also expect that from a company like JoomShaper...

And yes, I would like to have the fix and/or be informed on how to do it.

Regards, Erik
