Using Purchased Templates With An Existing Joomla Installation

Template 2 weeks ago

I purchased the Personal Plan, which includes all templates and SP Page Builder Pro for three domains. Naturally, I want to use it.

I've already installed and configured Joomla 6 on one domain. In this installation, I installed the "Stratos" and "Agentik" templates for testing and set them alternately as the default. However, nothing happens. The design isn't visible.

In contrast, the design of the free Helix template, in combination with the layouts, can be changed without any problems, just as it normally works with standard Joomla templates. Install a new template, activate it as the default, and I have a new design.

Why doesn't this work with the purchased templates? What am I doing wrong? What steps do I need to take to be able to use, for example, the Agentik template?

I look forward to your feedback.

Hi Peter,

so I guess, you are Joomla beginner. We always recommend to read template documenation before asking question on forum >> https://www.joomshaper.com/documentation/joomla-templates/agentik/template-quickstart-sp-page-builder-pro

Don't worry, everything is for people. For documenation transations use, for example, DeepL.

In short, since version 1.0, a Joomla template is just a layout without demo content – much like a steel building structure. To get the full demo experience, you need to install the Quickstart package step-by-step. If you are used to WordPress, you'll find it a bit different; while most commercial WP themes offer a one-click 'Install Demo Content' option right after installation, Joomla’s core doesn’t make it that simple. We have tried to simplify this in the past, but it proved to be problematic.

Dear Paul Yes, I'm still a beginner when it comes to JoomShaper tools.

I used to have a website that I built with Gantry 5 and Joomla 4. Gantry 5 was incredibly user-friendly and highly customizable. The use of so-called particles and atoms made everything very convenient.

I wasn't aware that templates can only be used with a fresh Joomla installation.

This means you have to choose a template beforehand and then install Joomla with that template using Quickstart. Switching templates afterward isn't so easy.

I'm currently designing my website using the layout pages from SP Page Builder Pro and will install a Quickstart version on my other two domains, right?

Peter, after all you have two options:

  1. You can install Quickstart and start working on demo content.
  2. Or, create subdomain test.herrman...... and there install quickstart to preview how all was made, and on main domain only install SPPB Pro and template. Then you will be able to export-import pages.

I think it's also a matter of habit. Like any tool, it has its advantages and disadvantages, and it takes some time to get to know it.

A template is just the structure; the real goal is the content displayed in the component area. That’s where SP Page Builder Pro comes in.

OK, thanks Frank.

Yes, you're absolutely right. One has to familiarize oneself more thoroughly with new tools. Thanks for the suggestions.

Can I also install the templates locally (localhost) using Quickstart to practice with them?

Sure, it will work. But use older PHP 8.2/8.3 version, just in case. For sure, not PHP 8.5 (!)

On Localhost site will work fast, without typical traffic delays.
