After upgrade from J3 to J5 every things works fine now. But from J5 to J6 error.

Then, i think, it is a left-over after upgrade form j3 to j5. And it give a problem to upgrade from J5 to J6. In J3 i used that addon in the 'old' SP page builder. What is the best? To way to remove/delete the old addon(s)? What i read and understand from Paul is to delete the complete subfolder at /components/com_sppagebuilder/addons/blockquote Are there more old SP Page Builder addons to delete because they not used anymore in new version 6.2.2 (which i use)?

Update; I see that it is a JText issue. An Jtext error. In one or more addons i think. I read something in your blogs in case of other people. And following that and tried something with BC plugin, disabling and upgrade to 6, and directly after that upgrade enable, db fix. But at the end frontend is not working (backend wordks fine) What is the solution? Thanks in advance. Bye, Erik

Hi Erik,

Yes, you have to manually delete all old addons, during SPPB update Joomla cannot do that. It can only add new ones.

We don't support addons from SPPB 3x or older versions anymore.

Simple method:

  1. You have to delete OLD addons (list below) from Page layout and replace them with a new one only. Probably use Text addon instead to use text from blockquote addon etc.
  2. Use FTP tool to delete all folders from folder: components\com_sppagebuilder\addons
  3. Then Install/Reinstall SPPB Pro 6x again to have only current list of addons
  4. Make sure that Joomla put there list of addons.

Those doesn't exist anymore in SPPB 5/6:

  • blockquote
  • dropcap
  • flickr
  • facebook like
  • facebook likebox
  • twitter_share

Nobody said that Joomla migration is an easy task. It's a time-consuming and needs a lot of knowledge, expirence. That's why site owners extra pay for that service.

About BC plugin is not ours. Here we can help with our products only.

Hi Paul,

I deleted all(!) add-ons from the folder. With that, the old 'JText' was also removed. Afterwards, SP Page Builder reinstalled over the existing one. The new add-ons were subsequently back in the add-on folder. The Backwards Compability plugin swiched off and no longer caused any problems(!), and the site could be upgraded to version 6.1.1 effortlessly. I did completely clear the cache each time. No database recovery was necessary in my case. Everything works smoothly at PHP 8.4.21.

Thanks!

For everyone with the JText problem after disabling BC, this is the solution in my opinion.
