Logged Out But Can Still Edit Pages

I have logged out of my website, but when I open the website in my browser, the "edit page" button is there. I can then simply edit the page and save it. This is very strange; I have never had this happen before. I have cleared the cache and browser history, but nothing helps. Any ideas?

We apologize for the inconvenience.

First, it's important to understand how the frontend editor works. To access the frontend editor, you must be logged into the frontend of your Joomla site with a Super User account. Once you're authenticated on the frontend, you have permission to edit pages directly.

The reason you're still seeing the "Edit Page" button after logging out is that Joomla manages frontend and backend sessions separately. Logging out of the Joomla administrator (backend) does not automatically log you out of the website frontend.

Since you're still logged into the frontend as a Super User, the frontend editor remains available, allowing you to edit and save pages.

Please log out from the frontend of your website as well, then refresh the page. The "Edit Page" button should no longer be visible.

I hope this clarifies the behavior. Please let us know if you continue to experience the issue after logging out from both the frontend and backend.

I have no idea how to log out of the Frontline Editor. I normally always log out of Joomla, and then usually I really can't edit pages anymore. Sometimes, when I am editing a page, I even have to log back into Joomla using two-step verification if I want to save it.

Thank you for the clarification.

Could you please enable the Shared Sessions option in Global Configuration and test the behavior again? You can find the setting here: https://prnt.sc/yeuI5bljE9lu

When Shared Sessions is enabled, Joomla shares the same login session between the frontend and the administrator backend. This means logging out from the administrator will also log you out from the frontend, preventing the frontend editor from remaining accessible after logout.

Please enable this setting and let us know whether the issue persists.

Hoi Henk,

indeed, if you are not sure, just visit your site using Incognito mode (Private Window), and you will not see any edit button. In Firefox, just Ctrl+Shift +P

I have enabled the setting, and the problem is indeed resolved now. Thank you very much for your quick support once again! I also read the hidden message, Paul; a malware scan is currently running on the server. I will let you know if that has helped.
