Frontend editor returns 404 with Joomla's default "Strict Routing" – please make SPPB compatible

Asked by ASG - Anerkannte Schulgesellschaft mbH 2 days ago Last activity 2 days ago

After updating to Joomla 6.2, the frontend editor of SP Page Builder 6.10.0 stopped working for all pages that are assigned to a menu item. Clicking "Edit page" leads to a 404 error (URL pattern: /menu-alias/edit/ID). The same happens with the admin account.

I found the existing thread (forum question 42762), where the recommended solution is to disable "Strict Routing" in the System - SEF plugin. I can confirm that this workaround fixes the issue.

However, Strict Routing is enabled by default in new Joomla installations and is part of Joomla's long-term routing strategy. Disabling a core SEO feature should not be necessary to use the frontend editor. In addition, the setting may be reset or changed by future Joomla updates, which caused the problem to appear on my site without any change on my side.

Could you please fix the SP Page Builder router so that frontend editing works with Strict Routing enabled? Until then, it would be very helpful to mention this setting prominently in the documentation or FAQ, as other users also reported spending hours on this issue.

Thank you!

Best regards

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you for providing such a detailed explanation of the issue and the steps to reproduce it. I have forwarded this compatibility issue to our development team for further investigation.

The team will work on addressing this in a future SP Page Builder update. However, since the upcoming version is already in the testing phase, the fix may not be included in the immediate next release.

We appreciate you taking the time to report this issue and provide detailed technical information. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work toward a solution.
