SP Page Builder 6.10.0 frontend editor returns 404 with SEF URLs on Joomla 6

Asked by Lindy Wineman 2 days ago Last activity 1 day ago

My SP Page Builder Pro frontend editor returned a 404 error instead of opening. I’m using SP Page Builder 6.10.0 on Joomla 6, with Search Engine Friendly URLs enabled on a non-multilingual site.

My hosting company investigated and reported a routing mismatch in components/com_sppagebuilder/router.php: buildRoute() adds the layout (edit-iframe) as the first URL segment, but parseRoute() only recognises edit. As a result, the editor URL cannot be routed back to the form view.

They added checks in parseRoute() for edit-iframe and edit-iframe-popup as a temporary workaround, which restored frontend editor access.

Can you fix this routing issue and confirm which release will include the fix so I can update safely and replace the temporary workaround?

Hi there!

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.

To assist you more effectively, may I kindly request temporary administrative access to your site? This will allow me to thoroughly investigate and resolve the issue for you.

Before sharing the credentials, I strongly recommend taking a complete backup of your site to ensure all data remains secure.

Looking forward to your response.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

This issue may be related to Joomla's Strict Routing setting in the System - SEF plugin. Please try disabling Strict Routing and check whether the SP Page Builder Frontend Editor works correctly.

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Joomla administrator panel.
  2. Navigate to System → Plugins.
  3. Search for and open the System - SEF plugin.
  4. Locate the Strict Routing option.
  5. Set it to No (Disabled).
  6. Save and close the plugin settings.

After making this change, clear your Joomla cache and browser cache, then try opening the SP Page Builder Frontend Editor again.

Please let us know if the issue persists after following these steps. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Here is what I have found so far. Log into the www.casscity.org website go to sp page pro / pages and we are particularly working with the "Forms" page in this instance to provide an example...... under the forms accordion element there is a file called Zoning Permit Application. the original method they have been using is to highlight the Zoning Permit Application Text and then go to the Link box and click on the upload arrow. they then upload the pdf file which creates the link like the one that we sent to you, see example below:

https://www.casscity.org/index.php/government/media/attachments/2026/11/03/zoning-permit-application.pdf

you will see that this method is storing the new file under media and not images which means that the link wont work. we use the images folder to store everything under and i added the zoning permit application by ftp to the images folder with the name zpa-22.pdf and it instantly works. I added the link:- /images/zpa-22.pdf to the link box and the url works fine.

so my question is why is the upload button going to the media folder and not the images folder and how can we set this up so that the upload in the link box to go to the images folder and and not media?
