I have 28 Sites To Upgrade To Joomla 4 - But have "Potential Upgrade Issues" With SP Pagebuilder

SP Page Builder 4 years ago

Hi

I urgently have to upgrade my 28 Joomla 3.10 websites to Joomla 4. I use the latest and greatest of Helix Ultimate and SP Pagebuilder. I followed the steps from Joomla.org, and get to a screen where SP Pagebuilder supposedly pose a threat to the upgrade.

Please advise?

Regards,

If I may... I also don't recommend upgrade to Joomla 4.0.x right now, please wait at least till December. Otherwise, you would have a lot of work, stress and high irritation level. And lots of posts here with "why it doesn't work I need help". I guess it's not worth it.

Pavel has right, haste in this case is not recommended.

If you start a new website - you can use Joomla 4.0.x - but that's a completely different challenge.

I would definitely wait or you will waste countless hours fixing everything only to have to refix everything after the next update.

Users are still posting many issues on these forums.

With so many websites you best wait a month or so to allow bugs to be worked out.

Hi Joe

There is definitely wisdom in your comment, and I appreciate it. But there are other factors as well. Too many to mention here, but one of them is moving over to a new host for all my sites. This process will take a month or two already, and time is a luxury I do not have.

Reporting all these problems I have to Joomshaper is part of a process for them as well to improve our wonderful Helix template and SP Pagebuilder. I was at the point of stop doing websites completely when SP Pagebuilder changed all that.

Today I am funding my studies with websites while still working as an IT Manager for a large corporate. I have already completed my four year BSBA degree and started my MBA in April - and very simple little websites fund it all.

Take care,

Hi. Of course, I do not know all your reasons for migration to J4, but I can not imagine something that is quite weighty for this. Usually, the transition to a new software since its release takes no less than six months. Not only SP Pb but also J4 itself is not ready for stable work. If you appreciate your time and your sites, I would recommend you not to hurry, otherwise you will spend much more time for bug fixes.

No reasons for concern. J3 will be supported for another 2 years. Helix and SP PB are steadily working in J3. Personally, I update only experimental sites to J4. But in no case the production sites of my clients.

Hi Pavel

Thank you for your reply. However, I have new sites I have to start on soon, and I do not want to do everything over again later. At this stage, even a stripped down J3 site with ONLY Akeeba, Helix Ultimate and SP Pagebuilder installed does not upgrade to J4 at all. It times out and eventually you get a server 500 error.

However, building a site from scratch works nicely enough, but takes longer. I contemplate exporting SP Pagebuilder to JSON files and import them again.

Let's see how it goes.

Regards.

Hi Paul

Thank you for your reply and your concern. I have a few one pagers I can quickly rebuild - I have just done one today. It will be those larger sites with FlexiContact forms which will keep me far to busy to do now.

Take care,

Replace FlexiContact with Convert Forms (tassos.gr) - and less problems you will have with upgrade.
