Updating SP Page Builder - Jumps Back From PRO To LITE Version

SP Page Builder 4 years ago

Hi,

I have been updating the SP Page Builder twice in the last view months and unfortunately it leaves me with the LITE version being visible and not giving me the option to access the pro features. It also impacts the look of my website - which is for a client and therefore not so great.

I first started my build with the LITE version and decided to upgrade to PRO midway. I followed the documentation and stumbled across this part: "SP Page Builder (Pro) can be updated or upgraded like any other Joomla! extension just by installing a new version on the current one. You do not have to uninstall the previous version; in fact, you MUST NOT do that."

Therefore I did not uninstall the LITE version afterwards since I wasn't sure if I would loose my progress otherwise. Now is the question: Do I have to manually install each new PRO update going forward? Because the page is for a client this would be very inconvenient.

Or is the problem fixed by simply deactivating/deleting the LITE version from my joomla/ftp? Currently they are both in the ftp client.

Thank you for your help! All the best, Corinna

I have checked your site. Your site has SP Page Builder Pro and it is working fine.

Hello Corinna Wiseman

Please follow the steps.

  1. Download SP Page Builder Pro latest version from our site.
  2. Then install it on your site.
  3. Activate your license key in the SP Page Builder settings.
  4. Then clear your Joomla cache and Browser's cache.

Best regards

Thank you but this is not helpful. I did that last time. And now it jumped back to the lite version because of it. Is there nothing else I need to deactivate? Do I always have to download the pro in my profile and update the page that way? That is really inconvenient.

Cheers

You do not have to do this always. Please share your administrator access here to check the issue. Use the Hidden Content box to share the credentials. Also share your email address and license key to check.

Thank you! I will provide the details. I downloaded and updated the PRO version - it is showing pro again. I also Put the LITE version in a different folder in my ftp to check if it would break and it didn't. Maybe it is safe to delete LITE then? Do I need to deaktivate it in Joomla too, so it doesn't look for updates? Where would I do that?

Cheers

Hello Rapha73

Please download the latest SP Page Builder Pro from the site and install on your site. Then activate your license if not activated.

Best regards

Hey Rapha73,

Unfortunately it is still not fixed and I just have to deal with the problem with every update. Which is really annoying. I basically gave up on reporting the issue since nothing came of it.

Therefore, no Ofi Khan, your solution is just a temorary fix and doesn't help with the overall problem.

I hope you might have more luck than me Rapha, I wish you all the best!

Hello Ofi Khan, i have to join the community and report the same problem. I have since found out that the downgrade error only happens when an Automatic Backup is triggered when Joomla 4 reports that a new SP Page Builder version is available. The fact is that your update routine no longer works with version Joomla4. You can only do a manual update of the builder. Then you only have to confirm the license data, which will be displayed. So the system has somewhere this license data still stored. Apparently these are not read out after an automatic update and there a Pro version becomes the Lite version and that is indiscutable. I have some customer websites which have been converted to your builder. And I have automated the update process. Now I can forget about it and update my 250 customer websites manually.

How about solving the problem as soon as possible, otherwise I will be forced to charge you for my time spent updating 250 websites manually.

It's a great deal, isn't it?

:-D

Thanks for your attention. And now back to the drawing board !!!

S.R.

Hi all,

I'm actually experiencing the same issue on my website.

Is there any chance the problem will be fixed soon ? It tends to be quite annoying to update manually everytime.

Many thanks, M

Hello all People of this forum,

I found a way that served me well at the moment on our club side.

Now, the steps to fix it....

1.) First make a database backup with Akeeba Backup.

  1. Then export each page created with SP Page Builder as a JOIN file.

  2. Rename the exported page correctly, because they all have the name "Template12345.join" and you don't know anymore what HOME or SERVICE or ABOUT is.

  3. Then go to the maintenance of the modules and components in the Config Center.

5.) Now uninstall everything that has to do with SP Page Builder. Lite Version, as well as Pro Version.

  1. Then in the list of update servers, remove all servers from the version you want to remove. So if the Lite version is to be removed, also remove the update server of the Lite file archives. If you want to remove the Pro version, then remove these servers.

  2. Now download the current Pro version from JoomShaper if you only want to have the Pro version. Otherwise the same applies to the Lite version

  3. Now install the archive in Joomla.

9.) In the unexpected case that your SP Page pages are no longer there, import the exported JOIN files again. But in 99.9% of the cases, these files are still in the database. If you have also removed the JoomShaper components Image Gallery or Portfolio, you can restore the data content via the backup of the database. But in most cases these files are still in the database.

Surely this is a sow's work for any admin. But as long as JoomShaper is only stalling us with promised updates in the future, you'll just have to make do.

On the one hand I can put myself into the life of a programmer. It is certainly an enormous effort to set up and maintain such a software.

However, I also have to say that the problem has been dragging on from update to update for over 3 years, without any success worth mentioning!

I have also noticed that the problems occur when you install the Lite version and then switch to the Pro version at a later date. And that seems to be "the crux of the matter", because when installing the Pro version there is no check whether a Lite version is already installed. Thus the SVN update archive of the Lite version remains active, even if the Pro version is installed. The SVN server of the Pro version is not installed in this case. The correct update server is only installed when the Lite update server is removed from the list of update servers. Then the Pro Update Server is installed 100%.

The problem is so obvious and probably so well known in programming circles that a change was quickly made in the source code. Why JoomShaper has not yet fixed this problem is a big mystery to me.

Sorry guys, but this is not a service!
