The Best Joomla Comments Extensions And Why You Should Use One

Wordpress was created strictly as a blog platform, on the other hand, Joomla from its beginning was a full feature CMS. These are the main reasons for the differences between those two content management systems. WordPress comes equipped with several features built into Core, one of them is comment system. Although Joomla! 3.3 (3.4) don't have in-build comments, and probably even in future version 3.5 will don't get it, you have possibility to install & use them in a simple and fast way. And probably you have even more possibilities how they should work for you.

Advantages of Comments

Comments can be used for different ways, as a standard comment for articles (all or selected), for reviews of products and much more. It is up to you how to use this feature in your web project. But the most important reason for their use remains unchanged, users (registered or not) it is a great way of developing unique on-page content sometimes even each day as well as allowing visitors to share their insights. The content which is also indexed by Google and can help your SEO. If users can read independent reviews of an individual article, offer or service, they see how real users perceive products, not only the manufacturer or reseller description.

In particular, also if you going to run a small business blog section based on Joomla!, one of the most important areas is the comment section. Interaction and audience participation plays a big role in the success of your blog, with direct comments as well as social media sharing.

Two solutions but many extensions

In general we have two main comments storage solutions: as a content in your CMS or as a social commenting system (Disqus, Facebook Comments, Google Plus comments) but in second option - those comments don't belongs to you database, because they are hosted on their "social" platforms.

When we are talking about Joomla and you will check number of extensions on JED for comments you might lost. What to choose and what will be good for me.

  • K2 - this is not a simple comments system, it can be even called additional content management inside Joomla because it has so many features, options etc.  When you are using K2 you don't have to worry about comments because it have in-build such a system. There are also solutions which allows you to replace this system with other.
  • JComments - it's very popular and known since 2009 AJAX based comment system (extension) for Joomla. If you used it on Joomla 1.5 you will still love it because there is a version for both Joomla 2.5 and Joomla 3.x. It has flexible ACL, smiles, BBCodes and avatars support, Antispam (CAPTCHA) and flood protection, Ban Ip, Quick moderation (from e-mails) and much more features. On project website you can find also modules which allows you to show latest comments, latest commented or most commented  articles. Greatest advantage, it is still a free component, but it inserts a backlink to the developer, this might be not good for you in some cases.

  • Komento - indeed has a shorter history than JComments, because first version was published in May 2012, but team behind this solution is powerful and done a great job. Maybe that's why Komento was one of the winners of the Community Choice Extensions in the JED in December 2012 because of its powerful and useful features. It uses the best proven solutions from comments sytems, moreover, updates occur very regularly. It handles comments in K2, EasySocial, JomSocial, FlexiContent, ZOO, EasyBlog, VirtueMart, AceShop, redSHOP, Ohanah , Sobi Pro , Mosets Tree in Professional version. As you can check it has two version free and commercial.

  • SP Comments - this is ours JoomShaper Social Comments plugin which you can download for free, without any backlink. You can use it for your website to add commenting features with Disqus and IntenseDebate and Facebook. Thanks to social platforms, your comments needn’t simply be restricted to your website. By using an integrated Facebook, article comments and product reviews (if you are using J2Store or K2Store) can also be posted directly onto the walls of your customers. This can help to improve brand awareness and should also drive further sales, with the buyer providing endorsements for both the item and your business.  Quickly it open up your Joomla website to a whole new audience.
After installation and configuration of FB comments once logged in to Facebook, you should see the Moderate option under each comment on your publication. Clicking on the Moderate button shows a drop down menu with 3 options: Hide Comment, Ban User or Boost Comment. Use the third option to bring these relevant comments to the top of your publication's comment box.
