Update SPPB To SPPB 4

SP Page Builder 3 years ago

Hello,

Updated from PB 3 to PB4. Must say that it works quite good for this website.

Only 3th party plugin/extension installed is Akeeba backup so far. Joomla 4.2.3 / Helix latest version / PB 4.05. I haven't made big changes or edits yet but for now it all looks good. Did it with a backup using a local machine running on PHP 7.4.

Good the idea when updating from PB3 to PB 4 the trick to avoid errors is to have installed as less 3th party extensions/plugins as possible.

When does Helix /PB fully PHP8 compatible? Next month support for PHP 7.4 stops.

Hi Robert,

Yes, they are, for sure you can use PHP 8.0.x. About PHP 8.1 they should be. We are still testing, so in case of let us know.

This year we also plan to add support for PHP 8.2.

This or next week we are planning to publish SPPB 4.0.6 many fixes etc.

Ok, I had time to play with it now. It's impossible to edit. Page gets stuck and very weird behaviour. It all looked good until I started to edit a some addons. I got the message 'error, invalid addon settings'. Even when I try to save the most simple addon like text and save and close the page the page goed back to the default MAMP pro page?? The whole website is build in PB3 using latest latest up to date files. It looks like BP4 can't handle it. Everything is up to date, tried PHP 7 and PHP 8.

It all works fine in PB3, in PB 4 it's not possible to work with at this point. Nothing runs smooth, errors and weird closings.

The message, 'invalid addon settings' how to know what addon on that page? It can be anything. The pagebuilder exists 99% out of addons. I'm glad I did it on Mamp Pro instead of a live site. Updating on a live site can result in a ruined website. There are no 3th party pugins except Akeeba Backup.

Maybe I can send the jpa file, then the devs can take a look and understand why this is happening.

PHP 8.0.8 and 7.4. It's really weird behavior when you work with it. The original website build using J4 & PB 3 works perfect.

  1. The problem is only on MAMP local or also on real hosting?
  2. Do you have this problem on all pages, or only selected.
  3. Can you create a new page with random addons.

Important answers for investigation.

I used only mamp pro. I have over 30 sites working al fine on MAMP Pro. On real hosting I dont know. I only upload sites to a real hosting to finalyse the websites. So in the last stage.

The problem was on the homepage of both websites I updated from PB3 to 4. After I experienced this I closed it.

New addons also gave weird behavior. Every time "error, invalid addon settings".

The addon hardly responds to a command. I couldn't exit the page in a normal way. completly stuck. Only option was "back to administrator".

I build Joomla based sites for about 8 years now. Imo it should make any difference whetever the site is used on a local machine or on a live environment. The protocols are the same.

Something with the update from BP 3 to 4 is wrong. I have build a fresh site using PB4 and did not have any issues so far.

Fun part is that for that site I didn't even create a database.. Forgot that in my hurry, but it worked.

Best and easiest is to get a copy of my backup and see so devs can see for themselve. It's the PB3 backup before you update to 4. Then you guys have all information.

I think the best way for "CSI" investigation would be to get full backup of that site.

Then our developers can dig and find out what is wrong. Especially when your site is on localhost only, without typical access.

Yes, of course you can remove some or even all images from backup.

Tell me where to send the jpa file in private. It's quite a clean website with only Joomshaper products except Akeeba Backup. So I agree this is a good change to take a look where things go wrong.

Will do, I assume photo's and added content stays confidentional? And all is only for internal use/investigation.

Later this week I will edit a backup first. Remove images and change some content. Is a Wetransfer link in the hidden area also ok?

Hi, I have stripped this website backup from my own content etc.

In hidden area the details.

It's a fully up to date and functional Joomla 4 / SPPB 3 backup. Let's hope the devs can see what is the issue with updating and the addons that gives a weird behavior and errors. The social icons on the bottom of the page are the first I saw they don't display correct and editing them gives errors.

Think best is to open and compare both sites, this SPPB3 backup and the other the backup you guys update to SPPB4 to see the differences.

Let's hope this helps.
