Trying to upload about 400 photos. Starts repeating the same image, hangs and doesn't work. Why can't we select a folder with existing files to create a gallery?

HI Tad,
becuase this is "Easy" = "Basic" gallery.
It wasn't designed for huge galleries. Sorry, but I cannot improve gallery code here on forum.
Feature that you asked "folder gallery" have, for example, JoomGallery, Simple Image Gallery Pro, SIGE (Simple Image Gallery Extended) etc.

None of those are written for Joomla 4.

I gave you only examples. As I know Droppics gallery component have Joomla 4 version as well.
If you plan to have an extensive gallery it is worth investing in a commercial extension.

Tad,
I just started using Balbooa's Gallery. Decently priced and it's working pretty good so far. They also have a free version.

this is also the good one. They have Free and Pro.
