Image Captions Not Displaying

Gazette template does NOT display Image Captions from the default Joomla editor.

In the content editing, "Images and Links" tab there is an option below the Intro Image and the Full Article Image to place a Caption. But, the Captions are not displaying anywhere. Is there a way to get those captions to display?

We are using the Gazette Template.

A sample page with Captions to display is located here:

Backend: https://www.shalomadventure.com/administrator/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&layout=edit&id=2846

Frontend: https://www.shalomadventure.com/torah/articles/this-fool-didn-t-know-when-to-stop

Thank you, Sean Carney

If you look at the following page on our website you will notice that there is no caption text being displayed anywhere below the Image:

What you see is the image followed immediately by the Intro Text. If your template was allowing the Captions to display then they would be visible below the image and above the Intro Text.

Here you can see the Image and Intro Text with no captions in between: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1d6oAAb1faO4sefBz7n28tydOgv0r_dZq/view?usp=share_link

Here you can see that the Images and Links tab of the Joomla Editor has a Caption entered into both the Intro Text and the Full Article Text Captions field:

BTW, Here is a way that another template house solved this problem: https://www.gavick.com/documentation/joomla/tutorials/captions-under-images-joomla

That is not a Caption. That is the Title from the Content Tab. It is displaying properly above everything else.

The Caption is from the Images and Links Tab. A Caption is text that displays below an image. It is usually formatted uniquely to differentiate between the other text on the page.

Captions are built into Joomla. But, often are not displayed. In the case of this article the text in the Caption field is: "Susa was safe and secure before the maniacal Haman appeared."

Thank you for entering into this discussion. BTW, I just now created a vanilla Joomla 4 site at my host in order to demonstrate where Captions display:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BjUB7HhridD2IS8UzXQyFY5ouvdQVOVO/view?usp=share_link

In this case the text that is displaying below the image is coming from the Image Caption field. It says "This is an Image Caption That Should Be Displaying"

You can see the page at https://captiontest.cloudaccess.host/index.php/article-with-caption-test

I do want to have the caption display below the image. That is standard behavior. But, I think it should be formatted nicer with a little fancier CSS. It could be a heavier font, or a colored font. Possibly indented a bit. It should probably be padded a bit away from the image. etc.. I figured you all would have some nice ideas on how to make it look nice.

I think it would be wise to build an option to display the captions in all of your templates. That way people could turn their display on or off.

Some template developers create a class file for the captions.

Thank you very much. I do hope the Joomshaper developers will add the ability to display the built in Joomla Captions into Joomshaper templates. In the meantime, my team is adding captions into all of the Image Caption Fields trusting that this will be fixed sometime soon and the entered captions will eventually be able to display on the web site.

Any idea whether adding the built in Joomla Caption fields support is going to become a part of your templates?
