SP Page Builder 5.0, Great Product, But....

SP Page Builder 2 years ago

Good morning,

I just installed SP PageBuilder 5.0 and on the face of it this is great progress. It is much more user-friendly and easier to handle.

However, I have a series of important problems, which force me to revert to version 3.9.

Completely unexpectedly, just installing SP PageBuilder 5.0 completely ruined my online layout, while in the Back-End it looks fine.

Here is a list of problems I encounter (the list is not exhaustive, because I have to go back to the old version as soon as possible, and since I don't have a test site, I have to do it as soon as possible.

Before discussing the problems on the live site, here is a remark that seems fundamental to me for the back-end.

When you want to edit a page, choosing the update in the back-end opens a new tab.... A priori, it's better than a pop-up (as was the case previously), but if you have a lot of pages to edit (which is my case, I have to review more than 1200 pages), you quickly end up with a lot of open tabs, which quickly becomes unreadable.

  1. Advanced: hide on device.

My site is intended to present travel videos. For this, I prepare my html code in my local database, because I want to add text and image, but only on laptop and tablet, because this text takes too much space on smartphone, forcing users to scroll quite a bit of text before getting to the video. The interface of my administration is in French. I think this is important, because in the new version I have 5 options to handle this:

Hidden on Laptop (off) Hidden on Tablet Landscape (off) Hide on desktop (on) Hide on tablets (on) Hide on cell phone (off)

The French options look correct, but the display is incorrect. Both videos are shown on laptop. By checking the options in English, it works. It will be impossible for me to manually modify the 600 pages concerned.

  1. Column layout

Below the full-page video, the text should be split into 2 columns. On the back-end, the representation is correct, but in live, everything is displayed in a single column. Saving the page does not change anything.

The most annoying thing is that the entire site is impacted. I could understand that only modified pages have this problem, but all pages do. Hence the urgency to return to the old version (in the hope that my site will be in order again.

Please watch this quickly.

The good thing is that the simple installation of 3.9 solves all front-end problems. I guess it will not be too difficult for you to solve those problems. I'll be glad to use the new version as soon as possible.

Of course.

The firat image show 2 videos above each other and the beginning or the text, on just one colomn: https://www.casimages.com/i/23070604395724459418209014.jpg.html

It should look like this on laptop: https://www.travel-video.info/en/videos-en/ban-xang-hai-the-whisky-village-o-laos.html and without the text and the image above the video on smartphone.

And the following screenshot shows the advanced responsive menu, where French and English items are mixed, but just mean the same.... (Hidden on Laptop and Masqe sur l'ordinateur de bureau), but unfortunately the wrong choice has been made. This would mean 600 pages to review manually, and you will easily understand that I have no time for this. https://www.casimages.com/i/23070604343624459418209008.png.html

For the first problem (colomns), I could not figure out a way to fix it.

Best regards,

Jean-Marie

PS: I returned to version 3.9 in the meanwhile, as like I said, the whole site is impacted. Not just the pages I tested SP PageBuilder 50. on...

I told you I went back to version 3.9 as 5.0 breaks my site... So I only have those screenshots I took this morning just after installing 5.0

If possible make a test page and give me a screenvideo of these issues. I need to forward it to our DEV team.

This is not possible. As I told you installing version 5.0 affects the whole site, even pages which have not been changed. I have no intention to break the 2000 pages of my website, just to let you look at a screen video. Please forward it like it is. They will understand I guess. Ask them also if changing the backoffice language into english can solve the problem of hiding the second video on desktop. Thanks

Here also layout issues after the update. Content gets a weird look, even the margin values are the same in old and new version but doesn't look the same. Very weird. Gladly I used a backup.

Simply reinstalling the previous version which is still available on Joomshaper site solved the problems for me. Only minor problem is a database error about the version. I hope this is not harmful...

It's not a issue on this site, it's a backup.

Just wanted to respond that JS understand the 5.0.1 update is not good enough to use on live sites. The new builder itself looks amazing and works great on new builds. We will get there..
