How To Link To A Section Within Another Page

MR

SP Page Builder 1 year ago

Hi,

  1. Defined button "read me" in the Home Page.
  2. Selected the "Page" link.
  3. Selected the target SPPB page.

This works well and fantastic as it removes the problems when reinstall the site with a different name and all the URLs fail. But now i have a problem.

After step 3, I want to link to section within the target page. So defined the ID parameter for the section in the target page but in the Home page button i could not find a way to define the target section within the target page like we used to do when using URL.

Please help

Hi, easiest way is to link "index.php?option=com_sppagebuilder&view=page&id=XX&Itemid=XXX#sectionID" where IDs u can see in the list of PageBuilder pages and ItemID is menu item ID.

Hi Murugappan,

Thanks @MiBa - yes, but it's better to create short menu alias. Each page should be added as menu item.

Tip! in Row Settings > Section ID > use custom name, for example, contact-form.

then link with alias used in Button or URL field would be:

https://mydomain.com/contact#contact-form

So simple rule, used for many years also in HTML. Anochor links. ABC of webmaster knowledge.

Hi Paul, I see, the webmaster's lack of basic knowledge is what you are fighting with - every day.

@MiBa Indeed, Sometimes I think I expect too much from webmasters, but I just don't know how they make people's sites for money with lack of basic web knowledge. It scares me a bit. Especially when I see the login "admin", or Q: how to change <p> color.

@MiBa, Please do not assume that all webmasters are of your stereotype. Many can hack a product to the core but they dont as they have better things to do in a company. I am a Solution and Technology Architecture and not a webmaster. My research feeds these webmasters to resolve complex requirements. Please check the various posts in this forum then you will realize where to shift the blame.

@ MiBa and @Paul, The question i asked is something and both resolved something else. I know about the format stated by @Paul since 2006. Create the link as per @paul's format and it will work for that instance of the site. Restore the site under another name like "mydomain2" and see what you get! Whole bunch of 404s in production!! So @Paul go resolve this too!!!!

Anyway my question was Joomshaper SPPB now provides a method to link using the SPPB page name as i have shown in the 3 three steps. That is fantastic because i can rename my site and will not get these nasty 404s anymore. The problem is with this type of link i could not link to an anchor point in the target page similar to using "#id" in the link. So how do i do that?? Over to you @Paul.

Murugappan,

  1. Define button "read me" in the Home Page.
  2. Select the "URL" link.
  3. insert link without domain name eg. about/#sectionID

If you restore site under any domain name it will work.

I fully understand that not all users here are webmasters. But people also should have skills or learn product to get at least basic skills, dependless on CMS or platform.

Hello MiBa,

I agree - and sadly that is in conflict with the trend in the CMS world where the adage of something along the lines of : "so easy anyone can build a site"...

WP is not easy unlike what they claim and while Joomla is pretty easy - all CMS require a minimum amount of knowledge, research and effort. :)

Cheers,

E.

Eleanora you are right, something very similar to "so easy anyone can build a site" is "The Ultimate eCommerce Extension for Joomla". With accent on word Ultimate.

@MiBa,

Thank you for the answer. Unfortunately you have not addressed my question. Perhaps I should do it again here:

Joomshaper SPPB Version 5 now provides a method to link using the SPPB page name as i have shown in the 3 three steps. That is fantastic because i can rename my site and will not get these nasty 404s anymore. The problem is with this type of link i could not link to an anchor point in the target page similar to using "#id" in the link. So how do i do that?? Please screencap below:

@Eleanora Agreed. There has been too much false hype and claims how easy things are. Yes it would be easy if that is the only thing I would be doing for the rest of my life. Now there is another idiotic trend in YouTube where people claim certain software are "game-changers" when the usage of the software throws all known practices out of whack.

Murugappan, yoy've got an answer with solution to add link with anchor. You do not accept it because this is not the way you want to add anchor link. So, your topic title should be something like "Feature request - SPPB add anchor link option bla bla..." 404 errors produced by links after site is moved to other domain will gone if you add an anchor link properly - without domain name part.

I think everyone got the answers, and we can close the topic.

URL field is also for anchor link, not only external link.

@MiBa,

My topic and question are correct as this forum say "Ask A question". It did not say post an issue or mind other people's business. Mine was just a question. Your English is wrong and your interference was unwarranted. Are you one of the developers for Joomshaper? If you are not then let the right people address the question.

@Paul, All you had to do was to answer " SPPB Page link does not cater for this requirements but I could pass on this requirements for future enhancement" That's it. I was just querying to see if there was a way which i was unaware of.

Murugappan,

My English is really bad. This reminds me of my Jabra hands free. When I want to know the battery level, I press a button and say "battery". I swear I hear laughter and the device starts shaking. On the fifth try I hit the correct pronunciation (at best) I get the correct answer.
