Joomla Version & Helix Ultimate

Hi all,

I am just beginning to build a site hosted on siteground. I intend to use the Helix Ultimate template to create the site and then build out from there. url: janianventures.com.au (nothing there yet though)

My question is: The app installer on siteground installed Joomla version 4.4.10, yet Joomla says latest version is 5.2.3.

Which Joomla version will be best to have installed?

  • also looks as though I would have to manually install the 5.2.3 version as the update checker on my auto-installed 4.4.10 installation says Joomla is up to date.

Hi Anthony,

I recommend using the Helix Ultimate Quickstart Pack from JoomShaper. It includes Joomla, and the template, saving time and ensuring compatibility. Download it here and follow the documentation for setup.

For Joomla, upgrade to 5.2.3 since it’s the latest version with critical updates. You’ll need to:

  1. Backup your current site (use Akeeba Backup or SiteGround tools).
  2. Download Joomla 5.2.3 from joomla.org.
  3. Follow the manual upgrade process or start fresh with the Quickstart Pack.

Let me know if you need further help!

Thanks

Thanks for the response Ziaul.

I must be rusty because i thought I could upload the quickstart packages (helix ultimate for example) into a joomla site I have hosted by siteground where joomla is already installed and I thought the extension manager would just load the template with data and structure by uploading the zipped quickstart package. Apparently this is not the case and i need to start with a blank slate if I wish to use the quickstart package.

I am confused by the responses I got from siteground support about PHP issues that occured when I attempted to upload the quickstart package. I have built a number of joomla sites in the past- also hosted by siteground, but that was a few years back and I must be missing something with how I use to upload templates into joomla.

In short, should I just delete the joomla installation that was intalled by the site ground app installer and then start from scratch with the quickstart helix ultimate package.

Apologies for any confusion.

Cheers Anthony

Hi Anthony,

Thanks for the explanation!

Yes, when using a Quickstart package like Helix Ultimate, you’ll need to start fresh with a new Joomla installation, as it’s a full Joomla setup with templates and demo content.

Here’s what I suggest:

  1. Backup your site before proceeding.
  2. Delete the existing Joomla installation.
  3. Upload the Quickstart package to your server and overwrite the existing files.
  4. Make sure the database settings are correct in your configuration.php.

If you need help, SiteGround support should assist with PHP and folder setup, but the key is starting with the Quickstart package.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you need further assistance.

Cheers,

That's all good. Thank you.

If you could explain, and I am sure there is logic to this, but I am curious why the structure and content of templates is only included in the quickstart packages, which can only be used on new installations.

I am building multiple sites and would like to have multiple templates installed on the one site. Is there a way for example, that I can import a complete template into an existing installation, rather than having to build the pages I want from scratch. The layout bundles look to be a kind of solution to this, but they are not necessarily replicas of content and structure that are available in the templates.

My example would be I would like to have the features contained in both the innovation and educon templates available on one site.

Cheers & thanks for your time, Anthony
