I've noticed this on my brand new site as well. As soon as we went live, the site slowed down. I was suprised because we optimized every image and ran it through compresspng.com. I have two developers that worked on it. One installed JCH Optimize and that helped a bit. The other did something with the json files of the template. We also turned on site cache and gzip in global configuration. I do know that in the template, under Advanced, there are two buttons that need to be turned on for compress css and javascript. Mine wouldn't stay turned on so he had to do something else using ftp. Overall, it took him about an hour to fix it now that he knows the problem. I can connect you with him on Upwork if you want.
