Dynamic Content And Filter Issues

I am running into some problems with Dynamic Content and Filters. URL is in hidden section.

  1. Filtering is not working with Joomla caching enabled! The filter just doesn't do anything. The site currently has caching disabled. Caching is working fine for the rest of the site, but when enabled the filtering does not work.
  2. Filtering count does not take into account deleted dynamic content or unpublished dynamic content. The count always includes these.
  3. I can't delete Dynamic Content collections that are not in use on any pages. I always get, "This collection is currently used in one or more pages. To delete this collection, you must first delete all pages that use it as a dynamic content source. Please review your pages and remove any references to this collection before proceeding with deletion."

So one of the things that I found is that there are items in collections that are in trash. How do I delete those permanently so they don't show in counts?

Note that when I view a collection (in the back end) with the All filter, trashed items are not showing. If I change to Trashed then they show. This seems strange as I would expect All to show all.

I figured out how to delete items that are trashed. Truthfully, it's not very intuitive as you have to filter for the trashed items, select them, and then use bulk actions to delete. It would be nice if this was documented somewhere. Also, maybe "permanently delete" or some other language would make it more obvious.

Regardless, I still have problems using a filter with any Joomla caching enabled. The buttons show for the filter, but when you click on any of them the URL changes (see hidden content) to include the filter, but the contents is not filtered and the ALL box remains selected.

Hello Gregory,

Sorry for the inconvenience you're experiencing with the dynamic content and filter issues.

To investigate this further and find a solution, could you please grant me temporary administrative access to your site? This will allow me to thoroughly examine the configuration.

Before you do, I highly recommend creating a complete backup of your site to ensure your data is secure.

Looking forward to your response.

Best regards

Could you please tell me which caching you are using?

As mentioned prior, currently caching is off so that the filter works. Turning on either conservative or progressive caching from the global configuration menu in J5 causes the problem. You are welcome to try it, but please turn it back off when done with your test.

Hi - Following up, has the issue of Joomla caching with Dynamic Content filtering been looked at? I can provide access to the site if needed. The site is now live in another location, but Joomla caching is off, leading to performance issues.
