Both versions should work on J5.x, but we more recommend using more current version for typical reasons, also if we talk about support of new PHP versions. Check Changelog of Helix Ultimate for more informations.

I also have private sites, and on all of them I updated Helix Ultimate to new version long time ago, and even played with upcoming Beta.

The links in the off-canvas menu don't work on laptop (Links are converted to text). Although they work on my mobile. So I went back to the old version :-(
