Hi!

Mi server run under PHP 7.4 and all templates of Joomla 5 don't work properly.

I downloaded EDULIF Quickstart Pack, but in Joomla 5 and i can't install it.

Could you please provide me with a link to download a version of Quickstart Pack EDULIF of Joomla (4?) that can work on a version of PHP 7.x?

Thank u very much!

Perfect, Paul: yes, as I suspected, option 1 is the most practical.

Yes, I've already downloaded the file.

Thanks!

Hola Austin,

You should change hosting company, or ask Hosting Support for PHP 8 upgrade. As you can check PHP 7.4 is not supported anymore (for over 2 years), slower & security concerns.

  1. QS J4x (link in Hidden Content).
  2. I hope you know that offcial support of Joomla 4 ends this month.
  3. Please try do not use PHP 7.4 for commercial, university or goverment websites.

Hi Paul:

Thank you for your quick response, your support, and the link ;)

Yes, I am aware of the risks of continuing to use PHP 7 and Joomla version 4. My intention is to use PHP 8 and Joomla 5.

I can change the PHP version on my server to 8, but I have several domains with an old website that would not support it.

Specifically, on two of them, I am using a Joomshaper template with Joomla 4, and my intention is to change the server to PHP 8, but I need the websites to continue functioning and be built.

My question is: what would be the order in which to perform these updates?

  • Option 1: work on Joomla version 4 with PHP 7. Once the websites are complete, update Joomla and the template to version 5 and then update to PHP 8.
  • Option 2: Update the server to PHP 8, upload the Joomla 5 quickstarts, and build the websites... This is the option I am trying to avoid, as it would leave the domains without a website for a few weeks... What would be the most appropriate and least burdensome process?

Thank you once again. Best regards,

If you have no other option for next week regarding PHP 7.4, you should think about using an additional security extension.

Si no tienes otra opción para la próxima semana con respecto a PHP 7.4, deberías considerar utilizar una extensión de seguridad adicional.

Option 1 - is the best for you right now. Just update everything (template & components) before Joomla 4.4.x > 5.x upgrade. For Joomla 5, you need PHP 8.1 (at least).

In that case 5.4.6 should be also OK, in theory.

5.0.0 is very old.
