Joomla 5 – could you please advise whether it is possible to assign multiple categories (not tags) to a single article?
For example, one news article needs to belong to Category A, B, and C at the same time. I would like to have a filter that displays this article when A, B, or C is selected.
How to do this? or what extension can do?

In Joomla, an article can only be assigned to one category. Joomla does not natively support assigning multiple categories to a single article.
If assigning multiple categories is a strict requirement, this can only be achieved using third-party extensions, as it is not supported by Joomla core.
Some extensions that can help include: • FLEXIcontent (supports advanced category relationships) • K2 (older, but supports multiple categories)
Please note that using extensions changes the default Joomla content structure and adds additional complexity.
In short: Multiple categories per article is not possible in Joomla core.

It's possible since J3, but you have to buy an extension: CW Multicategories
I used it for many years in the past. About J5 support, hard to say. I don't know alternatives.
