How To Properly Host Google Fonts Locally In SP Page Builder 6.2 & Helix Ultimate?

Hi everyone,

I am currently optimizing my Joomla 6 website for GDPR compliance. I am using SP Page Builder Pro v6.2 and the Helix Ultimate Framework.

My goal is to completely stop any connections to Google Servers (fonts.googleapis.com) and serve all fonts locally.

I have two specific issues:

Local Fonts in SPPB 6.2: What is the recommended way in the new 6.2 interface to ensure all addon-specific fonts are downloaded and served from my own server? Is there a global "Local Fonts" toggle similar to the one in Helix?

Icon Conflict: When I try to force a local font (like Arial) via CSS, my FontAwesome icons (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) break and stop displaying. How can I set a global font-family for text while protecting the icon-font integrity in SPPB 6.2?

I want to avoid using a Cookie Consent banner just for fonts and would prefer a clean, local integration.

Technical Details:

Joomla Version: 6.x

SP Page Builder: 6.2.x

Framework: Helix Ultimate

Any guidance or "Best Practice" for these versions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Have you read that guide >> https://www.joomshaper.com/documentation/sp-page-builder/google-fonts-and-dsgvo-gdpr

there is info about Google Fonts (2-5) and FontAwesome (7).

And FA are used only for few basics elements in Helix template, for example, arrows in MegaMenu. Using Fonts for HTML Tags don't change that area.

Is there a global "Local Fonts" toggle similar ....

YES, but it's from extension "OD Local Fonts" made by Martin (our forum user). It has also Free version. Fully GDPR friendly.

Hi everyone,

Thanks Paul for mentioning ODLF!

To answer your specific questions:

  1. Local Fonts in SPPB: ODLF integrates directly with Helix Ultimate's Typography settings, so fonts are served locally through the template framework (Body, Headings, Navigation, etc.)

  2. Icon Conflicts: The plugin only replaces text fonts - FontAwesome and other icon fonts remain untouched and work as expected.

I'm currently finalizing a few details for the official JED release, but the core functionality is stable and GDPR-ready.

Feel free to check out the free version or reach out if you have questions about setup!

Best, Martin
