No Horizontal Scroll To See All Columns In Dynamic Content Collection

Hi,

I cannot see all columns in the list of a Dynamic Content Collection because the list does not provide a horizontal scrollbar to view columns that extend beyond the right edge of the table.

As a result, it is not possible, for example, to see whether an item in the list is published or not.

I have already tried to enable a horizontal scrollbar using CSS, but without success.

What can I do to resolve this?

Thank you for any support. Ernst

Hi Ernst,

Thank you for reaching out and providing the details. To better understand the issue with the Dynamic Content Collection and the missing horizontal scrollbar, could you please share the URL of the page where this problem occurs?

Once I can see the page, I’ll be able to suggest the most effective solution to make all columns visible.

Looking forward to your reply.

Dear Atick,

thanks for your reply - unfortunately it didn’t help me much.

I did at least see in the video that horizontal scrolling is possible. What isn’t obvious, though, is that you first have to click the small handle all the way on the left edge of a list item to actually select an element, and only then you can use the arrow keys on the keyboard to scroll horizontally. That hint would have been really helpful.

In another tutorial I saw a horizontal scrollbar shown at the bottom of the list. That would be extremely useful when you don’t want to (or can’t) work with the keyboard - but it’s missing in my installation, and it’s also missing in your explainer video. Thismissing horizontal scrollbar is exactly what I described in my original support request.

Could you share a CSS snippet that forces the horizontal scrollbar to appear once an item in the list is selected? Even better would be a permanently visible horizontal scrollbar.

One more note regarding your explanatory video. Watching it was quite difficult because the video keeps stuttering every few seconds and I have to somehow get it running again each time. No smooth video playback thus making it uncomfortable to watch.

This is probably related to the service provider hosting the video, but I’m sure there are better options available for video hosting.

Kind regards Ernst

Thank you for your detailed feedback, and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and confusion you experienced.

Regarding the horizontal scrollbar, unfortunately this behavior cannot be controlled or forced through CSS alone. The scrolling functionality is handled by the internal JavaScript logic of the builder interface, so CSS overrides would not be sufficient to make the scrollbar appear permanently or only after selecting an item.

That said, I completely understand how having a visible horizontal scrollbar would improve usability, especially for users who prefer not to rely on keyboard navigation. I have already forwarded your feedback to our development team and informed them about the design limitation you described. Hopefully, this aspect of the interface will be improved in a future update.

Thank you as well for pointing out the issue with the tutorial video playback. I apologize for the difficulty you faced while watching it. We will also review the hosting and playback performance to ensure a smoother experience for users.

We truly appreciate your patience and your helpful feedback. Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or suggestions.

Dear Atick,

thank you for your detailed reply. I would just like to add that there is the previously mentioned video tutorial from JoomShaper in which a horizontal scrollbar is clearly visible in the list. Please take a look at the video here Tutorial and go to timestamp 3:05. There you can clearly see the (in my opinion very useful) scrollbar.

So the question is: where has it gone in the meantime?

Perhaps you could check with the person who produced the video for JoomShaper and ask how they managed to get the scrollbar to appear.

Kind regards Ernst

Dear Atick,

One more remark: I have just discovered that the list can be scrolled horizontally by clicking the middle mouse button. This works well with my mouse and the Chrome browser on Windows.

In your explanation video, however, it looks like you are working on macOS (or possibly Linux), where this feature may not be available - or may work differently.
