ZIP export fails on Windows 11 when page title contains a question mark (?)

Asked by Samuel Desloges 2 days ago Last activity 2 days ago

Hello,

I've found a reproducible issue with SP Page Builder Pro's ZIP export feature.

When exporting a page whose title contains a question mark (?), such as "Qui sommes-nous ?", the generated ZIP file cannot be opened using Windows 11 File Explorer ("The compressed folder is invalid").

After removing the question mark from the page title and exporting again, the ZIP file opens correctly.

It appears that special characters in page titles are not properly sanitized when generating filenames inside the ZIP archive.

Could you please investigate and fix this issue, and check whether other Windows-invalid filename characters are also affected?

Thank you!

Hello,

Thank you for reporting this issue and providing clear steps to reproduce it.

We understand that ZIP exports containing special characters, such as ?, in page titles may cause compatibility issues with Windows File Explorer.

We’ll forward this to our development team for further investigation, including checking other Windows-restricted filename characters.

We appreciate your detailed feedback and patience.

Best regards

It is primarily a Windows limitation (specifically, Windows File Explorer) combined with an export design issue on the web/exporting system's side.

If you open the exact same ZIP file using third-party tools on Windows (like 7-Zip or WinRAR), it will extract without any issues. I have 7-zip set as the default; probably that's why I never got that issue before.

Yes, we will try to remove all Reserved Windows Characters: : * ? " < > \ { } from filenames. As you can see, only those may cause problems.
