Why 10% Drop I Pagespeed When Using SP Pagebuilder

SP Page Builder 4 years ago

Hi, I've just made a fresh J4 installation and decided to run a pagespeed test. So I set up 2 identical content pages (only with text). One I set up in Joomla's default article CMS, the other in SP pagebuilder using one row and the text block add on.

I'm very supprised that the difference in pagespeed is so significant with so little content. I'd like to know what in pagebuilder causes the 10% reduction in page speed?

Please see attached image of test

Hi, Articles component don't load any extra JS/CSS files.

Just check sourcecode - the < head > section what is loaded, then you will know why. Some you can disable from sppb options, some others not.

Make a simple test: enable-disable 1-2-3 and check again.

Yes but how much extra JS/CSS does Pagebuilder need to serve a simple text? Cause decreasing the load time with 10% is quite dramatic when in SEO terms

Hi there,

Thanks for contacting us. I have checked your both URL and there is no huge difference.

When you have used the page builder the page builder loaded their resources (CSS, JS, fonts etc) & template files. Besides, When you use only template to display the article the article loaded only template files. That's why some difference appeared on google page speed.

-Thanks

@Toufiq thank you for your answer. When talking SEO it is a big difference! Anyway by disabling animate CSS and Twitter Cards pagespeed has been brought up to 94

Hi Bendict. Page speed is far from so dramatic as you assume. This is one of the non-very significant factors when ranking. Besides, Google Page Speed and other services are very subjective. They can easily be deceived without resorting to real performance improvements.

As for lower speed when using a page builder (any, not only SP) it is the expected behavior and fee for the possibility of visual editing. Any Page Builder carries on board a lot of code that is required for its work. If you are not ready to pay this price, do not use page builders at all. Use the source code instead.

By the way, SP Page Builder is one of the fastest among other page builders. But of course it does not compare in speed with a clean code.

Hi Pavel,

I guess that's a matter of opion whether you think page speed is important for your google rankings or not. I can only say that in my +15 years working with SEO, it's become one of the most important factors when competing for the very top rankings.

I'm very aware of page builders requires a bit extra, and the fact that the pagebuilder in question is one of the best out there. All being said, I still believe it's a relevant question to bring up - because there's always room for improvement... And believe it or not 10% matters!

What does animate CSS allow for if enabled, is it just animations on add-ons that we can set?

The fastest website = raw HTML5 + CSS + basic JS code without any advanced CMS.

SP Page Builder like any other Page Builder component (also for WP) are for those people who want to build & edit pages fast, without thinking about adding code manually or module structure.

Hi Chris

I believe when enabled all the animate css functions are loaded, so they can be called when using them in the add ons. Correct me if I'm wrong

I don't know exactly how it was coded. The topic was about how to speed up, also by reduce number of loading files.
