Text Not Showing On Buttons As In Template, Text Shows Below Buttons After Editing In PageBuilder

On a template I just installed at:
Text is supposed to appear on top of the buttons, as you see here:
https://esmaller.com/worthamlabs/index.php/departments
The template's design has text overlaid on the buttons, but after making the first edits the text appears below the buttons on the home page.

This is how it is supposed to work in the template:
The pictures with text overlay act as buttons, so I apologize for indicating them as "buttons" :)
We just need the text overlay to work as it does in the template.
It works fine on this other page using the same data:
