Stellar: Move From Search To Smart Search

I'm currently using Stellar template and would like to switch the search module to use smart search instead but retain the current look of how the search form is called. I've tried creating a smart seach module and copying and selecting the topsearch.pdf file which works for the look but doesn't display the search form when the magnifying glass icon is clicked. I assume that I need to modify the topsearch.pdf file to call smart search instead but can't work out how. Can you help at all?

Thanks for contacting us. Sorry for the inconvenience. This functionality is not ready for this template. Cause, Search module is overridden inside the template. That's why it's not possible.

Accepted AnswerThanks for your reply. Yes, I understand there is an template overide for the search module. What I'd like is to be able to modify the existing one to call the smart search module instead.
