Index - Search Plugin Works - Smart Search Plugin Returns Error Message

SP Page Builder 4 months ago

Hello,

unfortunately I get an error message when I activate the plugin "Smart Search - SP Page Builder" and perform the indexing. When I activate the plugin "Search - SP Page Builder" I get no error message, but also no result of the indexing.

The error message is: An error has occurred with a ‘Search index’ plugin.

The website has been upgraded from version 3.x to 5.x - everything else seems to work - except the indexing - please help!

Regards - Marco

I’ve taken a full backup of your site and restored it on my local PC. After removing the unpublished pages from the SP Page Builder section (not just moving them to trash), I ran the indexing process, which completed successfully without any errors. Additionally, I enabled the Smart Search Tags plugin to support proper indexing.

Please try the same on your site: • Ensure unpublished pages are permanently deleted, not just trashed, as items in the trash may still interfere with indexing. • Then, rerun the indexing.

If the issue still persists, I recommend the following steps:

  1. Take a fresh backup using Akeeba Backup.
  2. Restore the site locally on your PC.
  3. Delete all unpublished pages from SP Page Builder.
  4. Run the indexing process again and monitor the result.

Following these steps will help identify whether the issue is due to the hosting environment—such as server caching or blocked requests.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out to us. Could you please share temporary administrator access to your Joomla backend? You can provide the credentials securely in the hidden content section. Also, please take a full backup of your site before we make any changes.

Once I have access, I’ll investigate further and see what’s causing the issue. Let me know once you’ve shared the details!

Best Regards,

Hello Marco,

I’ve investigated the issue, and it appears the problem originates from Joomla’s Smart Search - Tags plugin. Specifically, the error is caused by a bug in Joomla core related to tag routing. This issue is not related to our product or template.

To resolve this, you may consider one of the following: • Reinstall Joomla core files to ensure the plugin is not corrupted. • Temporarily disable the Tags finder plugin from the Plugin Manager to proceed with indexing. • Or, if needed, consult a Joomla developer to patch the plugin code.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,

Hallo Ziaul,

thank you for your research! I have reinstalled the Joomla core files - error message persists - even with the ‘Smart Search - Tags’ plugin switched off.

And apparently the SP Page Builder Portfolio plugin also has a problem!

Hello Ziaul,

thank you for fixing the SP Portfolio Problem!

... I have reinstalled the Joomla core files - error message persists - even with the ‘Smart Search - Tags’ plugin switched off ... - you wrote that this would be a temporary solution?

At the moment the index doesn't really help me either, because I can't see the search fields when I show them - neither in the header nor in the offcanvas menu - that still worked yesterday.

ok, the search-fields are visible now again - after change the stile of the header and the canvas menue and set it back.

Apart from the fact that I still get the error message, the website should still be partially indexed. I ran the index again - error message - closed it - then 50 entries appear. Start again, indexing is running, error message - etc. Now there are 113 entries, error message - there won't be any more ...

Hallo Ziaul,

thanks for your help - it was very valuable! I have deleted all unpublished pages - after I made a backup - the old page still exists, if necessary these pages can be restored relatively quickly. The indexing works again - thanks again!

Best regards - Marco
