Addon Contact Form: GDPR Problem

Hello, I have a small GDPR problem that can become a bigger problem in Germany:

I use the add-on "Contact Form". I have two questions about this:

  1. in Germany and Europe it is now forbidden to transmit the IP address in the contact form. However, after sending, I can read the IP address in the email message. Is there a possibility to change this? Maybe via override? Is there a tutorial for this?

  2. are the basic parameters of the Joomla configuration taken during the transmission, because I would like to transmit the email GDPR compliant encrypted? I would then use SMTP with password.

Thank you and many greetings :) Bertil

Hi,

Yes, German webmasters have a lot's of problems becuase of EU law.

  1. Yes, it's possible to cut it off from contact form OR you can use Form Builder addon instead of that doesn't have that IP info at all. But most people forget that IP is inside each mail header that we get every single day.
  2. Both addons should work with SMTP enabled in Joomla.

Ad 1) You can edit or override contact addon file: components\com_sppagebuilder\addons\ajax_contact\site.php

Edit line 338 and DELETE this line:

 $mail_body .= '<p><strong>' . Text::_('COM_SPPAGEBUILDER_ADDON_AJAX_CONTACT_SENDER_IP') . '</strong>: ' . $senderip . '</p>';

How to override addon in template >> https://www.joomshaper.com/documentation/sp-page-builder/sp-page-builder-3/how-to-tips

Is now all clear?
