You can, but make sure to always use full website backup. It's the most trusted method. If somehow you forgot to make backup, ask your hosting provider they should have. If you want to go back to version 3, then remember to delete this folder before website recover from backup files. components\com_sppagebuilder becuase it contains SPPB 4.x files that are not needed in SPPB 3.x.

The old version refers to Version 4.0.4, not Version 3.x. I was having the crash issue when I upgraded to Version 4.0.5.

You can use the version 4.0.4, no problem. Just make sure to always keep a backup before doing anything.
