I would like to have a search field our the website, so went through all the steps to enable Smart Search. Then I published the module to the "search" position, but I don't see it.
Where is the "search" position in Helix Ultimate? Is there a map somewhere of all the positions supported by the template?

Hi. In Helix does not exist static, permanent positions, since Helix is primarily a framework, and not just a simple template. You can see all the preset positions in the template style options > Layout Builder. There you can change it and assign any other positions in an absolutely any place of the template.
