Google Maps API Key And Google Fonts API Key

Hi guys,

For website dereistafel.nu I want to use a Google Font that is not in the list, when searching in Template Options - Typography. That is Libre Bodoni

So I looked at Template Options - Advanced - Font Settings and I placed the Google Fonts API key. At least I thought that was the same code as the Google Maps API key.

I suppose I need to do that to update the Google Fonts list in Template Options - Typography.

When placing that API key, I see a message: Request from referrer is blocked I must have entered the wrong API Key too many times

Also, in SP Page Builder Settings it is possible to enter: Google Fonts API Key, which I left blank Google MAP API Key, which I placed in that field.

If those two Google API Keys are not the same, where can I obtain the Google Fonts API Key?

For now I used a work-around to place the Libre Bodoni font, but this is a lot of work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNu2rQx5mn0

Kind regards, Edze de Boer

Hi Edze de Boer,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry for the inconvenience.

You can obtain your Google Fonts API key from the following link:
Google Fonts API Documentation.

If your desired font is not listed, you can follow this guide to add a custom font manually:
Helix Ultimate Custom Font Guide.

Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.

Best regards

Hi guys,

Still struggling with Google Fonts API Key.

I already have an API Key for Google Maps, which I entered in SP Page Builder Settings.

It seems that I can't use the same API Key to enter in the field Settings - Options - Google Fonts API Key. When I go to Font Book, I get the message:

Invalid API Key. Requests from referer <empty> are blocked.

So I go to Google API and create a new API, the same way as I did for the Google Maps API. I don't see a way to create one for Google Fonts... I always end up on the page for creating a Google Maps API Key.

I enter the newly created API in SP Page Builder Settings and still get the same error message in Font Book.

So, where do I go to create a Google API for the field "Google Fonts API key" ?

Kind regards, Edze de Boer

Hoi Edze, info was in documenation - link was above

  1. Go here: https://developers.google.com/fonts/docs/developer_api?hl=en#APIKey
  2. Scroll up/down a little bit to see BLUE BUTTON > Get a Key
  3. Click and use google select field > Next etc.

sorry, but it's Google UX not ours ;]

Hi Paul,

Yes, I used that link before. I still get redirected to the Google API page with all my domain names and Google API Keys for Google Maps. On that page I can create a new Credential and enter that API in the SPPB Settings. I still get the same error message.

I will try to contact Google about this.

Kind regards, Edze de Boer

Hi guys,

Just to let you know that the Google API for Fonts is valid now. I just clicked No restrictions for one API in the Google API page with my Google API Credentials. Now I will test several restriction possibilities and I will let you know which is the correct setting.

Kind regards, Edze de Boer
