First, please verify that you’re using PHP version 8.1 or later.

To help identify the issue with the Joomla 5.3 update, enable debugging as follows:

  1. Go to System > Global Configuration
  2. Under the System tab, set Debug System to Yes
  3. Set Error Reporting to Maximum

This will show a more detailed error message, making it easier to diagnose the problem. Let us know what you find after enabling these settings.
