Tried To do Update With New Helix 2.2.0 And Website Crashed

Helix Framework 1 month ago

I tried to install your updates today and now my entire website has crashed and even the host company is having problems trying to get it back running again!

I am still on Joomla 4.x and PHP 8.1.xx

Now I have nothing. I am working on trying to get this site updated, but now I've got an even larger problem.

Why not tell people when you put an update out there that they shouldn't use it unless they are at PHP level xxx and Joomla XX.

Now what do I do???

Yes, as I know Joomla 4.4.x officially supports PHP 8.2. Helix Ultimate 2.2.x and SPPB 5/6 Pro as well.

About other extensions (plugins) - it depends.

What does this do for me???

It's a 500 error screen that you've linked to.

Best regards, Donna

Hi,

Could you please try the latest version of Helix? We have addressed these issues; please install the newest version and verify.

Hi, At this point because of the problems I will not try any 'new' upgrades until my site is on Joomla 5. My php is also an older version which needs updating. There are many of us out there that don't jump at the latest and greatest as we are volunteers doing websites and not full time developers or programmers.

I had enough issues trying to get my backup installed and have worked most of today so far on that, as I didn't realize the hosting company changed my php to test and never switched it back.

I will be upgrading forms (we have a lot) to get them ready for Joomla 5 as there is no upgrade path and they must be recreated. After that, the site will be upgraded to Joomla 5. And then we have to contend with Joomla 6. This is nuts.

Best regards, Donna

I might ask, why you didn't check Helix documenation first? https://www.joomshaper.com/documentation/helix-framework/introduction (info was updated just after HU 2.2.0 premiere)

If you're using Joomla 4.4x. you don't need updates that are decided mostly for Joomla 6, you can wait with that. Be smart, and always check product changelog before using an update button, or create website clone on subdomain for pretesting (very good idea!) - it may reduce number of silver hairs ;]

... even the host company is having problems trying to get it back running again!

Hmm, what can I say!? In general, we talk about updated files (template and plugin), not deep changes in database or core etc. So emergency fix should be easy & fast for somebody who knows Joomla well.

Sorry for the trouble. I hope today you're more relaxed seeing that the website works.

Paul,

As I said, I am not a developer or programmer. And with the link, where does it say it does not work with Joomla 4.x or PHP 8.x?? The link provided to Helix Ultimate does not state it will not work with certain versions.

*Version 2.2.1 22 October 2025 Fixes

Fixed Composer dependencies issue.
Fixed custom layout break issue.
Fixed pagination custom font missing issue.
Fixed blog layout overwrite issue.

Version 2.2.0 21 October 2025 Updates

Added Joomla 6 compatibility.
Added PHP 8.4. compatibility.*

If there was a link there to where and what documentation, I would have clicked it and I did click the 'Get Helix Ultimate'. I always check with Joomla updates and other extention updates and they provide the link.

Gee, I went with Joomshaper products because they said you did not need to know how to code and basically the layperson should be able to use it. I think in the last few years I've done a lot of learning on my own. I am not formally trained in anything to do with computers!!! LOL

(Hmm, what can I say!?) yeah, for being one of the best their support has gone south in the last 2-3 years. The hosting company did not change back the PHP version level that the backup was taken at and you are correct, added a few more grays to what I already have. I asked the BOD for a raise and was laughed at!!!

Thanks much, Donna

After all, we are here to help... sometimes to help after we broke something before, but it's part of the life cycle.

Have a nice day :)))

Paul,

I'm getting hit from all sides here and am scared to death to try anything. Things are moving faster than I can keep up with. And I don't like having updates sitting and not installed.

I've got to redo all my forms before I can update my site to Joomla 5 and PHP 8.4.

If I update my PHP to 8.2 with my present Joomla 4.x installation and then try the Joomshaper Helix Ultimate updates, it should work, correct?

Best regards, Donna
