Thanks for reaching out to us. The files directory introduce from Joomla 5.3. If you set the “Path to files folder” to files, SPPB will upload all media into that folder. If you leave it as images, then the uploads will go into the images directory instead.

In short, the path to images should be images, and the path to files can be whatever you prefer — though the default is files.

I think to switch SPPB Media Manager path is to edit the one in the Path to Files Folder. I dont know if maybe the team can short review this so its not too confusing. I mean maybe if can SPPB can independent in manage config to files or images folder, for its own SPPB Media Manager.

If you keep files folder name on any one of them then SPPB will use it otherwise it will use images directory as default.
