Hello Support Team,

I am contacting you regarding an issue encountered while attempting to update the Indigo template from version 4 to version 5, and to request your guidance on the correct and recommended upgrade process.

Context

Before working on the current production-ready version of the site, I installed the Indigo template in a separate folder on the same server to safely test the update from v4 to v5.

During this test update, the process failed with an error. Unfortunately, I was not able to clearly identify the root cause of the failure, so I stopped the process to avoid damaging the installation.

Current environment (from system information)

Template: Indigo

Joomla Version: Joomla! 4.4.14 Stable

PHP Version: 8.3.28

Database Type: MariaDB (MySQL compatible)

Database Version: 10.5.29-MariaDB

Database Collation: utf8mb4_unicode_ci

Server OS: Debian Linux (Kernel 5.10.x, amd64)

Web Server: Apache 2.4.65

PHP Interface: FPM / FastCGI

This is a clean and stable environment, currently running without issues on the working installation.

Current situation

The site is now running with a clean installation of the Indigo template.

I am preparing to create a full backup (files + database) of this working version.

Before attempting the update again, I would like to fully understand the correct upgrade path and requirements.

What we need help with

Understanding the update error

Are there known issues when upgrading Indigo from v4 to v5?

Is PHP 8.3.28 fully supported for this upgrade?

Are there known incompatibilities with MariaDB 10.5.x or Joomla 4.4.x?

Recommended upgrade procedure After completing a full backup, please advise:

Is a direct update from v4 to v5 supported for Indigo?

Or is a clean installation of v5 followed by manual migration recommended?

Should the update be performed via the Joomla installer, template installer, or another method?

Pre-upgrade checklist

Minimum / recommended Joomla version

Minimum / recommended PHP version

Required versions of SP Page Builder / SP MegaMenu

Any extensions or overrides that should be disabled or removed before upgrading

The goal is to upgrade the Indigo template to version 5 safely and without breaking the existing site, while keeping the installation clean and future-proof for updates.

Your guidance will help us proceed correctly and avoid further errors.

Thank you very much for your support.

Kind regards, Ivonne
