Yes, it is possible to install and use a new template while keeping your existing website content. Templates mainly control the design and layout, while your articles, menus, and other content remain in the database.

You may install the new template on your existing site. Then export settings from old one and then import in the new one. Then make the new one as your default template. Follow this documentation.
