Updating To Helix Ultimate 2 Requires A LOT Of Troubleshooting

Hi,

On one of our J.3.x sites we did quite some customization in the Helix Ultimate 1.x template. After Helix 2.x came out, we did some tests with updating but this caused much issues. I kept an eye on the development and although in Helix 2.0.7 the template and the plugin are more stable, it would still take us a huge amount of work to adjust all customizations to the new version.

We are now thinking of postponing the update to Helix 2 until we migrate the site to J.4.x, which is due in summer. Any comments / advice in favor of, or against this strategy?

Hi there,

Thanks for contacting us. Sorry for the inconvenience.

On one of our J.3.x sites we did quite some customization in the Helix Ultimate 1.x template.

We don't know what have you done before release 2.0. Besides, we don't allow customization support.

After Helix 2.x came out, we did some tests with updating but this caused much issues.

Without knowing your issue, can't explain the solution.

-Thanks

Hi Toufiq,

My description of the issues was not very specific, I agree with you.

In the first place, with "customizations" I meant to say that we made template overrides. Also, the site features a custom component, built for us by a Joomla developer who also has extensions in the JED, and we had to make some overrides on his original views (tested for Protostar) for compatibility with the template.

Specific issues that I found until now are:

  • Using the off-canvas switch does not render a visible menu on the page, only a page overlay.
  • We made an override for the pagination, e.g. in article blog views, which seems to be bypassed now as the pagination looks the same as it did before we added the override.
  • Most of the styling stays the same, but some of buttons and lists have changed.
  • In some of our list overrides we have Joomla search bars, these have disappeared.
  • The position of the system-message-container is moved to the lower right corner of the window
  • Also, as the FontAwesome version has changed, we have to adjust a number of overrides as these contain FA icons in list and buttons.

Hi Toufiq,

Thanks for your reply. I created a develop copy of the site where you can find the off-canvas issue (and the other issues as well).

I also created a temporary login for you. You can see the details in the hidden content.

Hi Toufiq,

The off-canvas menu is working correctly now indeed.

Could you please tell me how I can transfer the solution to the live site?

Thanks, Frits

The off-canvas layout wasn't selected from the template manager.
