I have noticed that version 5.6.0 of SP Page Builder has already been released, and I was wondering how safe it is to update my installation from 5.5.4.

Yes, it is generally safe to update to SP Page Builder version 5.6.0. The issue reported in the forum is minor and should not affect most installations.
