SP Page Builder – Frontend Edit 404 Error When Page Is Assigned To A Menu (Joomla 6)

Hello,

I am experiencing a consistent issue with Joomla 6 + the latest SP Page Builder. I tested this on multiple installations and the problem is always the same.

✅ What works

I can edit the SP Page Builder page normally from the backend.

The page displays correctly on the frontend.

If the SP Page Builder page is NOT assigned to any menu, the Frontend Editor works and I can edit the page.

❌ What does NOT work

When I assign the SP Page Builder page to a menu item, the page still loads correctly on the site, but clicking “Edit Page” on the frontend always results in:

404 - Page Not Found

🔍 My tests

To make sure the issue is not related to configuration, template, or extensions, I created a completely clean test environment:

Fresh Joomla 6.x installation

No template installed (using default Cassiopeia)

No SEO extensions

No security extensions

Only SP Page Builder (latest version) installed

Default .htaccess

Clean server with no URL rewriting changes

➡ Result: The issue is still the same — frontend editing does NOT work when the page is attached to a menu.

🔎 Additional detail

SP Page Builder attempts to open the edit link using this URL structure:

/index.php/alias/edit/ID

But Joomla 6 routing returns a 404 for this pattern.

🧪 Summary

Backend editing → Works

Frontend editing without a menu → Works

Frontend editing after assigning the page to a menu → 404 error

Tested on multiple clean Joomla 6 installations → always the same result

This appears to be a routing compatibility issue between Joomla 6 and SP Page Builder frontend editor.

❓ Could you please confirm whether Joomla 6 frontend editing is currently supported, and if a fix or update is planned?

Thank you.

Please navigate to the System – SEF plugin settings and disable the Strict Routing option. You may refer to the screenshot here: prnt.sc/S7KcKX6LfSp-.
