Helix Framework 2 weeks ago

Can you clarify for me what the differences are between Helix and Helix Ultimate?

I have many sites with BOTH of these plugins, ALL sites are running Helix Ultimate so I can't understand why Helix is there.

The complete list of Helix items installed in one way or another across my sites shows as below with versions.

For Helix Ultimate: PLUGIN : Helix Ultimate based template installer PLUGIN : System - Helix Ultimate Framework, v2.2.9 TEMPLATE : Helix Ultimate, v2.2.9

For Helix 3 MODULE : Helix3 Preset Option PLUGIN : Helix3 - Ajax v3.1.3 PLUGIN : System - Helix3 Framework, v3.1.3

Which of these can I safely delete if I am only running Shaper_HelixUltimate? Can you tell me why Helix 3 items might be seen there if not needed?

Chris

Hi,

Thanks for contacting us. Helix3 and Helix Ultimate are two separate Joomla frameworks. Helix Ultimate does not require the old Helix3 framework to work.

Since your active template is shaper_helixultimate, you should keep the following items:

  • Helix Ultimate based template installer
  • System – Helix Ultimate Framework
  • Helix Ultimate template

The following items belong to the older Helix3 framework:

  • Helix3 Preset Option module
  • Helix3 – Ajax plugin
  • System – Helix3 Framework plugin

You can normally remove these Helix3 items if none of your installed or assigned templates are based on Helix3.

They may still be installed because the website previously used a Helix3 template, came from an older QuickStart package, or had a Helix3 template installed in the past. Joomla does not always remove related plugins and modules when a template is changed or uninstalled.

Before removing them, I recommend:

  1. Make a full backup.
  2. Check that all active template styles use Helix Ultimate.
  3. Disable the Helix3 extensions first.
  4. Test the frontend and administrator area.
  5. If everything works correctly, uninstall the Helix3 extensions.

So, in your case, the Helix Ultimate items should remain, while the Helix3 items can likely be removed after testing.

-Regards.
