Updating To Helix Ultimate 2.02 Caused Menu Problems

Helix Framework 2 years ago

Hi
I updated my helix ultimate template for my joomla version 3.10.1 website with the shaper_helixultimate TEMPLATE and the System - Helix Ultimate Framework PLUGIN as indicated in joomla updates. Updated with Version 2.01 and also the 2.02

Now my desktop and mobile menus are not working properly:

  1. Desktop Mega menu is cut off – not showing all columns/categories as before, one whole column is cut off Off Canvas hamburger icon – is no longer working ie not bringing up the mobile drop down menu at all
  2. Mobile Devices: the dropdown hamburger icon (menu) is not working at all.

I am not super tech savy. I had someone originally help load joomshaper pagemaker + the templates on my site – and with that have since being able to use pagemaker to build my web site which I was very happy with. Your application/blocks/ templates have been super.

Unfortunately, I do not know how to get back my menus to their previous working state. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks

Rob

The amount of unecessary work you people cause EVERY TIME you do an upgrade is just astounding. It's always a question of whether what I pay you every year is actually worth the horrendous experience it is most of the time fixing the stuff you break.

Do you guyts EVER test before you subject your customers to this?

5 hours and counting on one site alone. Nobody is paying me for this. I am not going to make my customers eat the time you cost me. This is NOT progress.

I think the best way is a roolback to the functions of helix 1.1.4 with compatibility to joomla 4!

Got a similar problem: The menu disappeared on the place it should be and a lot of unused worthless social icons appeared after the update. Had to investigate lots of hours to get them all right for the customer. Open a call for getting the old version back as download ability.

Hi, Same problem on my side on dozens of customer sites. So I blocked all updates to version 2.x and stayed in 1.1.4 while waiting for a patch to arrive, or for me to take the time to modify all the templates. It's not an update as we like it ...

MandyO, I am really sorry for you. But the most important rule is to always make a backup before updating. This is how I was able to restore my customer's sites.

This has not ONE THING to do with "did you create a backup" and EVERYTHING to do with shoddy programming.

There is NOT ONE chance that ANYONE should have to spend hours fixing the things you people screw up.

So, your comment about "gee, you're a dummy if you didn't back up" is bunk.

Learn to respect your customers. Learn to reapect their creativity and STOP trying to force yours off on them.

Spend less time adding "features" and MORE TIME fixing the ones you already have. There is NO EXCUSE for this crap. NONE.

I don't PAY for your software so I can build a version of YOUR template, but when there are updates that are available, I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO REDESIGN THE DAMN SITE TO APPLY THEM.

Great way to handle a complaint though: in line with the shoddy quality of the product.

I too have been frustrated by the Helix Ultimate and Page Builder upgrades. And, with a few exceptions, the tech support response default of "did you delete your cache" and refer back to the list of PHP prerequisites is the equivalent of rebooting Windows. Not an investigative solution.

Hey Joomshaper customers, what alternatives are there for building Joomla sites? Page Builder has problems to be sure (no page modified date...not updated Google Analytics SEO rankings) but what else is there? I've looked at RS Page Builder, but it's just not the same. Page Builder, for all its faults, makes lovely pages, tech bugs and all. I'm kind of trapped in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenario for the sites I've built on this platform.

If someone could share with me how to make a hero section image background fill the entire width of the browser window (like SPPB does) I wouldn't need SPPB in the first place.

Thank You! This is very helpful and works to have offcanvas menu finally show on both desktop and mobile views.

Also still struggling with the other items I previously mentioned

  1. Mega Menu on desktop is cut off
  2. Hamburger Icon
  • Not located at far right as before and aligned with social icons - too tight to other menu items
  • on mobile devices not centred on the bar in line with social icons anymore
  1. There is some ghosting of unknown code next to a few menu items on number of pages - ie. F107??? What is that?

DB link to some screenshots showing same ( issue with sub menu now resolved) https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qgglt6rj5couvmk/AADqwhWtLdFUQk-ir4Zlg2fja?dl=0

Thanks again. Regards Rob

**Update: I reloaded (turned off and on again) the "show sub menu" and this seems to work now for off canvass but still showing that ghosting code F107 on some pages

Where do you find the settings to change mega menu number of columms, width button options etc? It used to show up in the individual main menu items Mega menu drop down still cut off. Thx **

Hello all,

I have seen numerous problems with this HU 2.x update. Menu is one of the major issue. After countless hours of troubleshooting each websites I manage, I am now pretty much able to update all the website painlessly with the following steps:

  1. Remove ALL custom CSS pertaining to the menu in both custom.css, and also inline in the template->custom code.
  2. Clear all cache including template's cache
  3. Update HelixUltimate
  4. Go to template options->Basic->Header, then select "Minimal Layout"
  5. Go to template options->Menu, then reselect all options in that screen. Even if they already correct.
  6. Save template then clear cache once more.
  7. Re-do what ever custom css properties that you need. Because it seems that some of them now are using different naming convention.

Using the method above, I know it's long steps just for updating template but I have been able to update many websites without issue now. And trust me, it is MUCH shorter steps than having to troubleshoot issue that will occur after the update without the steps above.

I hope this help those who are still with issue.

RE: Updating Helix 2 caused Menu Problems - WORKING NOW

Hi Toufig,

Thank you Toufig, Elliot and all others who chimed in with good suggestions. My company web site is back. Let me say that even with all the recent update issues as owner/operator of my website - HU 2.0 has allowed me to build and manage a graphic heavy, custom site without being a code specialist. I look forward to tweaking even more going forward.

For future reference - is it possible to update your FAQ & How to Do section with new 2.x compliant custom CSS code sections for example to change colour of hamburger icon, to customize mega menus etc ?

Thanks again to all for the valued help.

For the FAQ design you can use the page builder and to change the hamburger icon you need to use custom css code. Thanks

"Spend less time adding "features" and MORE TIME fixing the ones you already have."

Fix what you have before you add more bugs. For me, adding custom CSS to fix bugs is not a solutions. I understand having bugs is normal; but, being infested with bugs is poor craftmanship.

Hi Toufig I was looking for sample examples of custom code to use for customing in future for Code Ludites like me. I was able to use this section previously to customize my header (ie. for earlier Helix versions)

I am also still trying to eliminate the"ghosting" code F1 07 that appears on dropdown menu items. Any ideas.? See attached link https://www.dropbox.com/s/y6wpev5yfu7yi66/BA%20DropDown%20Ghosting%20jpg.jpg?dl=0

Hi Toufig

The CSS code additions + enabling font awesome has fixed all my known issues. Website is back even better than before, and I now have a working version HU 2.04 going forward. As I previously mentioned Pagemaker + HU has allowed me as an owner/operator to build and manage my own site - a site which relies on extensive slideshows and galleries, videos. Thanks again for all your support. Rob

I likewise developed display problems on mobile devices when I upgraded to Helix 2. Had to roll back to 1.1.14 to fix it. (Fortunately, I had an old copy sitting on my computer's hard drive.)

However, this has felt concerning - to see an "update" create such negative results - apparently not just for me, but for many. Will this be addressed in the next update? Or are we stuck with 1.1.14 for the foreseable future - even as other Joomla updates etc emerge?

My issue was - on mobile, if anyone clicked the "waffle" menu icon, the icon collapsed in on itself, as if it was blown up, and then the whole screen just went to an unreadable blur, rather than a desired page. Not a real effective "upgrade."

Gratefu I stlll had 1.1.14 on file to fall back on for now - but hoping for a more effective, forward-thinking solution from JoomShaper. Any prospects of that any time soon?

@Carrie M Wrigley. You will need to go to template options then select one of the off-canvas menu style. That should fix the issue.

The problem is, in the older version they only have 1 off-canvas menu style. Now in the new version they have 3 styles to choose from. However, none are chosen by default after the update. Hence where the blurred screen came from. Because there's nothing in the setting for the off-canvas menu.

Hope this help.

I tried Elliott's fix, after updating to Helix 2.0.5. On my desktop, it looked like it worked at first - the phone and iPad display (on the computer) worked perfectly, and looked lovely - in all 3 off-canvas styles. (My favorite was the left align - really beautiful.)

However - when I pulled it up on my actual phone - again, no waffle icon - no way to access ANY of the menu items. So, sadly, I uploaded my old Helix 1.1.4 again - which fixed that problem, and restored the waffle icon and menu functionality. But again, leaves me with my original problem - and nervous about future updates.

Any other insights on this? I'd sure love to be able to use the updated version - as long as it doesn't disrupt core navigation functionality.
