SPPB 4 Apha 3 - Errors In Installation

SP Page Builder 3 years ago

Hi,

I installed the SPPB 4 Alpha 3 over existing SPPB 3 installated in my site. The following errors occurred:

(1) The quick icon for SPPB which was there previously, now disappeared and i could only access SPPB 4 using the components menu (2) When i access my previous pages, some of parameters setup in the old SPPB addons have been lost. (3) When one of the existing pages - Home page - was called in the Front end, i got 404 Page.

I am not sure, looks like upgrading from SPPB 3 to 4 appears to be a failure. This has to work because your current templates are all using SPPB 3 and have to be upgraded.

Page Builder 4 is not stable you should't use it on your production site until release stable version. I would request you to use old version 3.8.3 version of Page Builder. Cause, template need to make compatible with the Page Builder 4. Thanks

Hi Taufig,

The site is not a production site. Its a test site to test the SPPB 4 and provide feedback.

You provided us the download for the SPP4 Alpha so that we could test it and provide feedback, am i right? The blog post did allow commenting. When i checked with your "chat" support they requested me to use the support forum. So i did.

So, if our feedback is not welcome, then i would suggest you stop sending out the Aphas to us because its pointless giving us something that is all broken. We will be wasting our valuable time when there is no value extraction.

Hi. A common testing practice is that any alpha version is not suitable for testing an upgrade from an older version. Alpha is usually only tested as a clean install. Therefore, your observations in terms of updating from version 3 now do not make any sense.

Similar tests as yours makes sense to do from Beta 3, based on changelog

Hi Toufiq,

I did give you the access previously and it is still there. Please check the hidden contents.

Hi Pavel,

Thank you for your feedback on my comments. Your view is normal and expected from someone who may not have much exposure (no offense meant) in business solution development and planning. You should understand that majority of users who will be receiving the software, at the point of release, will always be upgrading. New users will only come after that. If my assumption is correct, then when you give us the Alpha we will always test it with a test version of our existig site. Why?

(1) Existing site provides us the previously tested addons (2) Provides us with ample test samples (3) Avoid unneccessary time wastage in creating fresh test samples just to test the working aspects of the Alpha. (4) You forgot that when i want to test, i need to install one of your existing templates which already carries the version 3. So upgrade is the step anyway.

Of course it does not make sense to a non-business solution developer. Time and again, even of late, i have reminded Joomshaper that people are looking for alternatives and QUIX seems to a be a close one especially their software developers who are much committed to User Satisfaction rather than feeding their ego. We are eagerly waiting for their next major release too.

Anyway, take our feedback and address the issues or throw away and go your ways. The choice is yours. I dont want to waste time debating what is right. Hopefully we are still there to support your product at the end of it.

By the way, please check with your founders on why they issue Alpha. I am willing to stand corrected.

For you understanding please read this from your Apha 3 blog:

Help us do better with your thoughtful feedback and suggestion. Try the Alpha version in a test environment and let us know how you feel about the new changes in the comments. Keep your eyes on our blog and our newsletters for more updates on SP Page Builder 4 and releases.
