No because I do not want people signingup to the site.

So all you need is redirection after login to selected menu item?

Click sign in at top of page Complete Login form Redirect to Home page

It works, no template bug (!) as you may think, just follow my tips:

1. Delete all menu items from trash, especially those with logging in (login name).
2. Check if you don't have 2nd login menu item somewhere, but not used.
3. If you don't have, create a login menu item, it can be in "Hidden" Menu. Then set it, in similar way as I did.
