I want to create 4 Template Module Positions in the same row and be able to assign modules to them via Joomla back end -> modules. Or is this not done that way anymore anymore?
I am thinking that I may be approachng this from an incorrect perspective?

First, create your modules and in the module position field, give them whatever name you want (type something "mymod1" or something and hit enter - not return - to lock the name.)

Second, do as per Paul's instructions above. In each of the four columns you would load the module positions you created. You can also give the parent row a section name.

Yes I create Jomla modules this way. Good to know I can also use this with SPPB. Getting used to SPPB has been interesting. I have been so used to doing everything from the backend that it has taken me a while to get used to designing/editing from the front end. I am really liking the flexability SPPB offers. I also appriciate designing with real time visualizations. I appreciate everyones help and have really begun to understand this amazing application. This old dog is learning new tricks.
