Offline Image In Joomla - Why So Complicated

SP Page Builder 11 months ago

Joomla 4.4.9, SPPB Pro Version: 5.4.1

Template: shaper_helixultimate - Default v2.1.1

Here we go again with the endless frustration over offline images and this template.

Why is this so complicated? All I want is to put my site offline and have an image display on the home page.

'Coming Soon' mode? Disabled. Joomla Site Offline? Enabled.

And yet, every time I ask for help, someone suggests editing the offline.php file. Seriously? That’s not a practical solution for most users.

The 'Coming Soon' feature is utterly pointless, and I know I’m not the only one who thinks so.

So, how do I put my Joomla site offline and display an image on the home page without the headache?

Hi,

I understand your frustration.

However, if you want only the offline mode and image to show in your site, then you can enable only the coming soon mode. Please check the video:

Yes, I know login form will not be available there. But as you wanted to put the site offline and just show an image, then you can definitely follow this.

Best Regards

@Rashida Rahman

You are demonstrating the Coming Soon fnctioanlity , not Offline - they are different - I think you are as confused as me.

I want to use the default Joomla Offline functionality which allows me to display an offline message and an offline image. It also allows me to login.

Here we go again with the endless frustration over offline images and this template.

Perhaps I did not understand correctly, but there was never any difficulties with this.

Step 1 - Global Configuration > Site Offline > YES

Step 2 - Coming soon ON > Add background image > Save > Coming soon OFF > Save

Or just publish the module containing an image in Coming soon position.

All this is very flexible and allows you to make any appearance of offline page.

Here is both options on the screenshot

The 'Coming Soon' feature is utterly pointless

Although I never used this function, but I do not think that it is pointless. It makes sense to use it for marketing - for example, the start of sales and the like. It is good that Helix has such an opportunity on board.

Hi @Pavel,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, it is an issue, and I have reported it multiple times:

https://www.joomshaper.com/forum/question/33590 https://www.joomshaper.com/forum/question/25781 https://www.joomshaper.com/forum/question/25689

@Toufiq mentioned, "We will fix it soon. Until release global update use the solution." @Paul Frankowski acknowledged this as a bug and added it to the list over a year ago, even suggesting that the "Coming Soon" feature should be removed in favor of enhancing the default offline mode.

I strongly disagree with the need for a "Coming Soon" feature. It adds confusion without offering any real benefits over the standard Joomla Offline functionality. The core Joomla feature is straightforward and includes everything needed, like an offline message, an image, and a login form. The Helix implementation, however, seems to override this core functionality and makes users jump through unnecessary hoops.

The current process is unnecessarily confusing. For example:

Step 1: Global Configuration > Site Offline > YES Step 2: Coming Soon ON > Add background image > Save > Coming Soon OFF > Save

This approach involves activating and deactivating the "Coming Soon" mode just to display an offline image. Why go through this convoluted process when the core Joomla Offline mode should handle this seamlessly?

Moreover, being advised to edit or rename PHP files, which is not feasible for non-technical users, underscores how unintuitive this solution is. There's no documentation to support such steps, making it an impractical fix for most users.

Could this be taken seriously as a request to simplify the Helix framework by either aligning with Joomla's default offline mode or improving Helix's offline capabilities without redundant features like "Coming Soon"?

The added complexity and need for manual edits undermine user-friendliness and deter those without technical expertise.

Hi @johnny.

tep 1: Global Configuration > Site Offline > YES Step 2: Coming Soon ON > Add background image > Save > Coming Soon OFF > Save

I agree with you that this is not intuitive. Nevertheless, it is not so difficult. And compared to the standard Joomla functionality, is much more flexible for creating any appearance that a designer draws.

I work a lot with designers who draw as they want and sometimes rather complicated things, for the implementation of which through the standard functionality of Joomla, it would be necessary to really edit PHP.

In the case of Helix, PHP editing is not required. I don’t know who gave you such a stupid advice.

The level of webmasters using Helix is very different. There are beginners and there are professionals. The software should strive to satisfy the requests of both groups, but not only beginners.

As a professional, I exclusively appreciate this Helix functionality. And I would not like any changes in this.

For many years of practice, I used many templates. And in recent years I have been using only Helix. I believe that Helix is the best in the market, thanks to its simplicity compared to other framework-templates and pure understandable code.

Sometimes people hate what they do not understand. But when they begin to understand, they begin to appreciate.

For intuitiveness, it would not be bad just to add an additional option like "Offline mode" along with existence, the "Coming soon mode".

Nevertheless, I am not an employee of Joomshaper and cannot affect the solution of such issues in the development of Helix.

Hi @Pavel,

Thanks for your input. While I see the value in Helix's flexibility for professionals, the offline image feature has been a long-term issue that has been reported many times. You can see from the advice I've received that this remains an ongoing frustration, and I'm still waiting on a clear answer.

The current non-intuitive process, requiring toggling the "Coming Soon" mode, adds unnecessary complexity when Joomla’s default offline mode already offers a simpler solution with built-in image and login options.

My clients range from complete beginners to experts, and the framework needs to cater to both ends of the spectrum by balancing powerful features with usability. Simplifying this process would make Helix more user-friendly and efficient for all users. Additionally, clearer documentation would help reduce confusion for non-technical users.

JoomShaper support needs to address this directly, as aligning Helix's functionality more closely with Joomla’s straightforward "Offline mode" would significantly enhance the user experience and address this common concern.

In the case of Helix, PHP editing is not required. I don’t know who gave you such a stupid advice.

I have added links to the previous answers I've received.. which I am still confused about.

Hopefully @Joomshaper official support can advise?

Thanks

Hi @johnny.

I agree with you. But remember that Helix is free. Therefore, what we have, we have. At least in Helix you can always find a workaround if something is not intuitive.

Hi @Rashida,

Thanks for the reply. I do not want a temporary solution, I need a permanent solution - I have many sites to implement this on so it's not feasible.

Can this sokution not be pushed as an official patch that can be downloaded, as with all other extensions and templates?
