Hello,

Thank you for reaching out.

To create a blog layout similar to your older custom-developed site, please follow this guide:

https://www.joomshaper.com/blog/create-a-dynamic-blog-in-joomla

This tutorial explains how to build a dynamic blog layout using SP Page Builder.

Regarding Custom Fields, please note that the Dynamic Content system currently supports the following field types only:

  • Text
  • Text Area
  • URL
  • Editor
  • Media
  • Calendar
  • Radio
  • Number
  • Integer

Other custom field types are not currently supported.

Kind regards

Hi Thank you for your quick reply.

I'm still having trouble understanding because I'm already using a regular page to create an index page with an articles add-on. Have you seen my images? See new images in my cloud: front-end, index page article-category.png backoffice- addon articles (page).png regards

Hello,

Thank you for the additional screenshots and clarification.

I have reviewed your setup.

Please note that the Articles addon in SP Page Builder is not designed to function as a full article index page builder. It is mainly intended to display a limited selection of articles inside a page (for example: featured articles, latest posts, or filtered items in a section).

Because of this limitation:

  • It does not support custom fields integration
  • It does not provide pagination options
  • It is not intended for full category/index layouts

If your goal is to build a proper article index page similar to a blog or category listing, the recommended approach is to use the Dynamic Content → Articles feature instead, or rely on Joomla’s native category blog layout.

This will give you:

  • Full category-based listing
  • Pagination support
  • Better compatibility with article data

Kind regards

HI

As you could see from the images, the blog section of the service catalog would be suitable.

Could we keep it and not create a separate article index similar to a blog or category list? If so, how would we do this specifically using the Dynamic Content → Articles feature instead? A preliminary example would be appreciated, as it would help us given the urgency. Regards

Hi I only want to create a Details page SPPB, but is it possible to link it to an SPPB page that includes the SPPB articles add-on (see image in the provided Nextcloud), which is sufficient in this case?

I'll try again. I just want the SPPB article details page. I don't want to create an SPPB blog index (I find it complicated).

However, you mention linking the details page and this blog index in SPPB.

The question is, is it possible to link this SPPB article details page with an SPPB page containing the Articles add-on (see image with the term in Nextcloud)?

If you have created the blog/article details page using SP Page Builder, then there is no need to separately link it to an “Articles” addon page.

Once an article is assigned to an SP Page Builder layout for single article view, Joomla will automatically use that SP Page Builder layout whenever that article is opened—regardless of whether the entry point is a blog index, menu item, or any Articles addon listing.

In other words, the Articles addon page (index view) only acts as a listing mechanism. It does not control the rendering of the single article itself. The SP Page Builder layout takes over the article details view globally based on the article view override configuration.

So yes—what you want is already the expected behavior: you don’t need to link or duplicate anything between the Articles addon and the SP Page Builder single article layout.

HI I have the same problem with the collection.

I can't define the source for items in the child categories of "Service Catalog" (id=124) in the Collections addon. Please do this and show me with a screenshot, as this is preventing me from progressing. Regards

Hi It's strange not to have received any answers, especially since I've followed the documentation and I'm stuck on specific points here and in the other thread.

You say it's possible, but I'm getting very little help other than being referred back to the documentation. This is a problem for me because I get the impression that your solutions to my needs are complex and difficult to implement unless you help me unlock the points on the test site you provided. Regards

Apologies for the delayed response.

Unfortunately, I was unable to fully understand the issue you are experiencing based on the information provided. Could you please share a screen recording demonstrating the issue? This will help us better understand the problem and investigate it more effectively.

I don't understand your request to resend images when I've consistently sent documented photos to the Nextcloud space from the beginning (since your system doesn't allow for a user-friendly way to send photos). It's true that over time it becomes more difficult for everyone to keep up. If needed, we can do it by email, but the easiest way is for you to go to the SPPB pages you created and you'll see that I'm stuck on assigning the article category in order to format it with the content and custom fields.

Thank you for providing an example.

Thank you for your response.

I understand that you have shared several screenshots previously. However, the reason we are requesting a screen recording is that the images alone do not clearly show the exact steps being taken before the issue occurs. While screenshots help us see the final state, they do not provide enough context to understand the workflow, the actions performed, or where the process is failing.

At the moment, we are unable to clearly identify the issue from the images provided. A screen recording would allow us to see the complete sequence of actions, including the page being edited, the category selection process, and any unexpected behavior that occurs. This information is essential for us to accurately reproduce and investigate the issue.

Could you please record the issue and upload the video to files.fm (https://files.fm), then share the download link with us? Once we receive the recording, we will review it and continue our investigation.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

I first registered the old site with the catalog, then the details page with custom fields.

Then, on the site you have access to, I went to the SPPB page listing the two categories and then displayed the page in the layout view!

I then showed the administration panel with an attempt to create a collection, but without any data! Then the details page with no possible link to the collection or the two categories.

I hope that's clearer and I'd appreciate the same thing with a video recording when you manage to do that.

Thank you for the detailed explanation.

I need to be honest — the workflow you described still doesn’t give us enough clarity on where the configuration issue is occurring, so at this stage we are not able to reliably reproduce the behavior from the steps alone.

To better understand your setup, could you please clarify one key point:

Are you using Joomla Articles with SP Page Builder Dynamic Content (Article layout), or are you creating a completely new Collection inside Dynamic Content and then trying to bind it to the layout?

The reason I’m asking is that, if a new Collection is being created in Dynamic Content without any properly linked or populated data source, it can appear exactly as you described (empty collection, no linked categories, and no available mapping in the detail view). However, if you are working with standard Joomla Articles + SP Page Builder Dynamic Content, the configuration flow is different and the issue would need to be checked in another area.

From your description, it also seems possible that the collection is being created before any data source is available, which would explain why nothing appears in the layout or detail view.

To avoid confusion and speed up the setup, I strongly recommend going through the official Dynamic Content getting started tutorial, as it clearly explains how collections, data sources, and layouts should be connected: https://www.youtube.com/@joomshaper/search?query=dynamic%20content

I clearly demonstrated on the old site what needs to be replicated.

Then, on the new test site:

  • The architecture with the two Joomla article categories.
  • Next, the service catalog page is an SPPB page, as you can see among the other SPPB pages. You told me that this wasn't a problem.

=> The issue to address is the article detail page with custom fields. The categories are under the category (id=124) as I mentioned yesterday!

I've spent hours looking at the documentation and now the videos, which are far too fast to understand :-( If you want to help me, the best thing would certainly be to create this detailed article page with everything I've already mentioned, rather than referring me to other sources or asking more questions. A collection probably isn't necessary since the content is the article with the custom fields, but I can't get it to work.

We'll all save time, and my satisfaction with the JED will be that this will be an example of how your extension solves this kind of problem (even if it's not easy). As mentioned, all my attempts in the video were unsuccessful and perhaps irrelevant if there aren't other problems, bugs, etc.

Hi Franck,

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I understand your requirement now. You are not trying to create a new Dynamic Content Collection. Your content source is already Joomla Articles with Joomla Custom Fields, so creating a Collection is not required in this case.

Your existing SPPB page with the Articles addon can remain as the catalog/index page. The part we need to configure is only the Joomla Article details layout using SP Page Builder Dynamic Content.

We need to create an Article Details layout, connect it with Joomla Articles, and map your article content and custom fields there. After that, articles from your Service Catalog categories should use this layout when opened.

I will check your provided test site and try to prepare a sample article details layout based on your existing Service Catalog structure.

Thank you
